UFC 135: Underdog Rampage Jackson Is Ready to Shock the World
With UFC 135 just a few hours away, the excitement over the main event featuring Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is coming to a head.
While the MMA world has known Rampage as a trash talker throughout his career, the fact that Jon Jones got into the mix might be a sign that Jones is getting rattled by all of Rampage’s chatter this time around.
This also could be a sign that Jones is not afraid to get into a verbal war because he feels he can overcome anything Rampage hands him. While Jones may not be afraid of Jackson, he should respect him for being a veteran fighter.
Jackson told the Vancouver Sun about his lack of respect for Bones Jones:
""I just like people to be real all the time and don’t try to put on a front. When the first interviews for this fight came out, he says he’s so humble and all this stuff. Then you really meet him and he seems so cocky. He was saying stuff he shouldn’t be saying to a veteran fighter like me. The guy has never walked the way I’ve walked in this sport. Basically, he said the wrong (expletive). And I treat him the way I treat him because I’ve got no respect for him."
"
Jones is much more of a trash talker than people have been lead to believe, and Rampage is just using the truth to shake the psyche of the young fighter.
Rampage made the biggest strategic move in the pre-fight trash talking by accusing Jones of having spies at his training camp. When these accusations came out, it clearly affected the way Jones handled the rest of the pre-fight exchanges.
Only time will tell if Rampage can win the fight, but he is a strong enough puncher with enough MMA experience to capitalize on any mistakes Jones may make. Jones is the favorite, but Jackson is the kind of underdog that can steal the show.
Whether or not Jones is really mentally shaken by Rampage’s strategies, Bones will bring his A-game to his fight with the veteran striker Jackson.
