UFC 135 Fight Card: What Fighter Has the Most to Lose
At UFC 135, 20 fighters will be competing with their hopes and dreams at stake. However, some fighters have more at stake than others and one fighter in specific has more to lose than all of the others. Who is this one fighter? None other than UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jon Jones has a tremendous amount of things to be lost if he comes up short against his opponent Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
First, Jones has his light heavyweight title to lose. This title is one of the most coveted in the UFC since the division has long been the UFC's marquee weight class.
Aside from losing his title, Jones would also lose the confidence of the MMA community.
The champ is being touted as the first of the "new breed" of MMA fighters and as the next big thing in the sport. If he loses, the hype train around Jones will instantly come crashing down and it'll be a wreck more spectacular than the wreckage from the Lyoto Machida and Brock Lesnar hype trains combined!
People will stop believing in Jones and he'll go from potentially the greatest MMA fighter of all time before the fight to a vastly overrated bum who got lucky a few times afterwards.
Some may say that Jackson has a lot to lose but he doesn't face the perils that Jones does. If "Rampage" loses, what's the big deal? He was against an opponent many expected him to lose to anyway and people will remember him as a "legend" of the sport for his unique personality and highlight reel moments.
Jones on the other hand, will be cast out of the positive limelight and will become a mocked figure in the sport. He not only has his championship to lose, but his standing in the MMA world as well. No other fighter on the card faces such perils.
