NFL Power Rankings Week 3: Which Underrated Teams Will Rock NFL Landscape?

Jun 7, 2018

With Week 3 of the NFL season knocking on our doors, it’s time for the power rankings to get their weekly makeover thanks to upsets and blowouts.

While many of the best teams have proven why they were originally ranked so high, there are a few teams looked at as afterthoughts that will make a huge splash in Week 3.

These underrated teams have been stuck at the bottom of the power rankings for too long, and they will catapult up this week with great showings against tough competition.

Oakland Raiders—The Oakland Raiders watched one of their biggest competitors in the AFC West blow out their collective knees when the Kansas City Chiefs lost Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry. Now, they have the chance to show they could steal the division form the San Diego Chargers by beating the New York Jets on Sunday.

With the Jets flying 3,000 miles for this game, the Raiders are hoping to beat a less than 100 percent New York team that hasn’t looked that great over the first two weeks.

Tennessee Titans—With the addition of veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to a Tennessee Titans team looking for stability, the hopes of instant success were slowed in the first two weeks.

As stellar running back Chris Johnson gets back into gear, the defense will have to stack eight in the box and Hasselbeck will pick single coverage apart.

After beating the Baltimore Ravens last week, the Titans will take on the downtrodden Denver Broncos in Tennessee and make a statement to the NFL with their victory.

Detroit Lions—The Detroit Lions have become one of the most potent offenses in the entire NFL, and their defensive play has been close to the level the offense has been playing on.

With the return of first-round pick Nick Fairley to the team’s defensive line, the Detroit Lions may be boasting one of the top-10 defenses in the entire NFL.

If the offense can keep up this torrent pace, with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson healthy, the Lions will not only climb in the power rankings, but make the playoffs.

Washington Redskins—The Washington Redskins are one of the biggest surprises of the season, and there is a chance they could steal the NFC East—or at least a wild card spot.

With Rex Grossman throwing the ball all over the yard, the Redskins offense has been one of the most dangerous in the NFL. As good as the offense has been, the defense has been just as spectacular.

The Redskins have a huge test against the Dallas Cowboys this Monday night, but if they beat the Cowboys, there will be no question that they are for real.

Buffalo Bills—While I will not say the Buffalo Bills will beat the New England Patriots, this is the best chance the team has since 2003 and they will make it a game.

With Harvard educated Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, the Bills will be stellar in the passing game, and Fred Jackson will help the run game both dominate the Patriots' front seven and open up the secondary for Stevie Johnson to get loose.

If Buffalo can legitimately make this a game in Buffalo, they have a chance to be a losing team that actually climbs the power rankings.
