Tulsa vs. Boise State: Last Minute Spread Info and Predictions
If Tulsa thought things were rough last week, the Golden Hurricane ought to see what happens to them against No. 4 Boise State.
The Broncos are once again bucking the conventional BCS wisdom, with Heisman Trophy contender Kellen Moore guiding the team to a flawless 2-0 start. Tulsa on the other hand, is coming off a 59-33 loss to No. 7 Oklahoma State that didn't kick off until after midnight due to local lightning storms.
Chances are, head coach Bill Blankenship wouldn't mind if this game got wiped out entirely, sparing his team the expense of an embarrassing defeat.
Where: Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho
When: 8:00 p.m. EDT
Watch: CBS Sports Network
Spread: Boise State -28 (courtesy of sportsbook.com)
Opt for the spread here. The Broncos haven't beaten either of their opponents this season by four touchdowns and escaped with a seven-point win over the Golden Hurricane when these two teams met last in 2009.
Over/Under: 63 (courtesy of sportsbook.com)
Take the under. These two teams combined for 49 points last time around. What's more, Boise State's defense is more than capable of keeping Tulsa from scoring enough points to keep the point total under 60.
Key Injuries
Tulsa quarterback G.J. Kinne is questionable for Saturday's game after injuring his knee in the first quarter of last week's loss to OK State.
The Broncos are a bit banged up at fullback, with starter Dan Paul nursing a groin injury and backup Chandler Koch close to returning.
BCS/Top 25 Implications
The only team with anything at stake in the BCS or the polls here is Boise State. Anything less than a blowout win will hurt the Broncos' chances of playing for the BCS National Championship.
Because their schedule is practically devoid of quality opponents from here on out, the Broncos have to win by wide margins each week to appease the voters and stay in the hunt. Clearly, then, a loss would drop the Smurf Turfers right out of the national title race.
Keys to Tulsa Win
The ground game will be key if Tulsa is to pull out the biggest upset of the young season. With a freshman quarterback likely under center, the Golden Hurricane will need to rely on their running backs as a means of controlling tempo and keeping Kellen Moore and company on the sidelines.
Keys to Boise State Win
Frankly, if Boise State just shows up and does what it normally does then this game should be a piece of cake. All Chris Petersen need do is sit back, relax and enjoy as Kellen Moore spreads the wealth to every receiver imaginable.
Prediction: Boise State 42, Tulsa 21
