A Look at the Oklahoma Sooners' National Championship Hopes

The Oklahoma Sooners are currently No. 3 in both the BCS and the AP Top 25. Their current record stands at 10-1, with their only loss coming to Texas.

Their most important victory was against Texas Tech. In that game, the Sooners played great defense. Sam Bradford also played well in that game, throwing for 304 yards and four touchdowns. He also went 14 for 19 in passing the football. Bradford helped raise the Sooners back into the national title race, but also helped his Heisman status rise.

Oklahoma had two 100-yard rushers in the game also. Their offense clicked, and their defense stopped Texas Tech's high-scoring offense. Their defense held Michael Crabtree to fewer than a hundred yards and no touchdowns.

The Big 12 South race has thickened even more now. Oklahoma could play Missouri in the Big 12 title game if they beat Oklahoma State this week. Texas plays Texas A&M this week. If the Sooners beat Oklahoma State, then they could jump Texas at No. 2 in the BCS standings and play Missouri for the Big 12 Championship.

If Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech finish the season tied, then the BCS standings will determine who plays Missouri. Then if Oklahoma beats Missouri to win the Big 12, they will probably play for the national championship. This would mean that Texas, who beat Oklahoma, would be left out of the title game.

This is what makes college football fun and exciting, especially when the late season drama heats up.
