Tampa Bay Buccaneers May Put the Hat on Mighty Mason Foster

Tom EdringtonSep 23, 2011

Quincy Black didn't play that great against Minnesota and he may have to sit out on Sunday with a bum ankle.

Know what that means?

It's Mighty Mason time.

If Black can't go against the Dirty Birds on Sunday, Mason Foster will become an every-down middle linebacker and he'll call the defensive signals.

"Mason will call the plays if Quincy doesn't go. He's not that deficient," Raheem Morris advised.

Not that deficient?

How comforting when you consider that perennial All-Pro Tony Gonzalez will be working his way over the middle.

You think Matt Ryan will be looking for his giant tight end, again, and again, and then again, maybe?

The Falcons offense will represent a lot of tough matchup situations for Foster and just about everyone else on the Buccaneer defense.

The defensive line simply has to get pressure on Matt Ryan. In the first two games, the young D-line has no sacks. On the other hand, Ryan has been sacked nine times.

Is this the week?

A sack, a sack, a sack?

You'd figure that Aqib Talib can match up with Roddy White. Then Julio Jones becomes the next problem. His size alone creates problems but he hasn't done much yet and he hasn't shown he has the hands of an elite receiver like Calvin Johnson.

While they worry about those three, there's always Michael Turner, who will present a huge problem when it comes to stopping the run.

As if Foster doesn't have enough on his plate.

That's going to be a buffet-sized plate if Black can't go.

More duties for Mason Foster?

Well, you can take comfort in knowing he's not "that deficient."

Comforting thought, isn't it?
