NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Are Staging Biggest Turnarounds?

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

As is the case in any NFL season, a handful of teams are making big turnarounds just a year after limping home with losing or .500 records.

Here's the list and their corresponding power rankings positioning:

Detroit Lions (No. 5)

There will be some critics who say Sunday's win wasn't an impressive showing for the Lions, but I'd disagree. Playing in a stadium where they hadn't won in 15 years, Detroit stormed back from a 20-0 halftime deficit to win in overtime.

Now, the Lions are 3-0 for the first time since 1980. That's impressive enough for me.

Buffalo Bills (No. 7)

On Sunday, the Bills became the first team in NFL history to come back in two straight games when down by 18 or more points. With the Jets loss in Oakland, the Bills now sit atop the AFC East.

What? For a team that won just four games a year ago, this turnaround to start the next season is almost unbelievable. Is this team a legitimate playoff contender now?

Houston Texans (No. 8)

The Texans still look like the best team in the AFC South, but they should be kicking themselves for letting a game go that should have been a win. The Texans had three chances to put the Saints on the ropes in the first half and had to settle for red zone field goals.

That let the Saints creep back into the game before the half, and eventually, to steal this game away from Houston. I'd still bet them to make the playoffs, but the Texans will look back on this game as one they let get away.

Oakland Raiders (No. 13)

It's time to start taking this team seriously. If it weren't for a late Bills rally, the Raiders could be 3-0. Still, a 2-1 start is encouraging and there's no reason to think that Oakland can't compete with the Chargers for the AFC West.

Washington Redskins (No. 15)

We are going to find out a lot about this team tonight. If they can win a game on the road against a divisional rival with the rest of the NFL watching, we might have to consider the Redskins as a threat in the NFC East.

Tennessee Titans (No. 16)

Most people are handing the AFC South to the Texans, but these Titans are right there at 2-1. Losing Kenny Britt is a big, big blow to the offense.

Cleveland Browns (No. 21)

In all reality, the Browns should be 3-0. There was no reason for them to lose Week 1 against the Bengals, but credit them for rebounding with two straight wins.
