WWE: Austin Comments on Current Promo Talent; One Responds

"And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so!"

There is little doubt that Steve Austin was one of the best of his generation.  During the rather infamous "Attitude Era," Austin was arguably the best overall talent in the ring and on the mic.   Spawning the aforementioned catchphrase, he also was known for this rather straightforward manner on the stick and spawning the loved (and hated) "What?" chant.

There may be few better to ask about this current generation's ability on the mic.  

In fact, that was among the topics covered in Powerslam's interview with the Bionic Redneck in issue 208 due out soon.  

According to WrestlingInc, Austin was promoting his new movie Tactical Force while doing an interview with the magazine when the subject got to the point of this generation's ability on the mic.   He has the following to say of some talent in particular.

On CM Punk:

"

Well, I love CM Punk. That guy is already a star, and he's just breathed a much-needed breath of fresh air into the wrestling business.  He's been working for over ten years. I'm a big fan of his—love his skills, love his promos.

"

On Alberto Del Rio:

"

Alberto Del Rio reminds me of Gino Hernandez from the old [Dallas] Sportatorium. [He is] another one who needs to work on his promos-I don't like them worth a s--t right now-but he has great ability.  He just needs to add a few pieces to the puzzle.

"

Onto "The Viper" Randy Orton:

"

I'm interested to see where Randy Orton goes next. His promos need work, and right now, he's a little one-dimensional. The crowds are digging him, but there's still another step on the ladder for him to climb to.

"

A little while after the story came out, Orton noted on his Twitter:

"

Austin is right, there is still room for me to move up the ladder. And I will. Watch me.

"
