NFL Picks Week 3: 5 Easiest Games to Predict Against the Spread

Alex HallSep 23, 2011

With Week 3 in the NFL season almost upon us, the Las Vegas odds are up and this Sunday will prove to be fruitful for some gamblers while heartbreaking for others.

For those looking not to go "all in" but still make a little bit of money off of this weekend's upcoming games, here are five teams that have the best chance at covering their respective spreads.

Buffalo Bills

1 of 5

The way the New England Patriots pass defense has looked so far and the way both teams have been lighting up the scoreboard leads many to believe this will be an old fashioned shootout in Buffalo.

The Bills enter this home match-up as 8.5 point underdogs to their AFC East rivals, but the Patriots defense has been overly generous to opposing quarterbacks to start the 2011 season, just ask Chad Henne.

The Pats have been in shootouts in each of their last two games, but they've been able to keep their opponents at arms length, winning both by double-digits. The Bills have been nothing short of impressive so far however, and their balanced attack on offense should prove to keep this game within a touchdown.

St. Louis Rams

2 of 5

The St. Louis Rams have had a tough schedule to start the season, taking on the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles in losing efforts and Baltimore will try to add to their early season woes.

The Ravens are 4 point favorites in this game, which still seems like too much confidence to have in a team that just got beat by the Tennessee Titans. St. Louis looks to have Steven Jackson back for this game, who will be playing with purpose after having to sit out against the G-Men last weekend.

Sam Bradford has had a up and down start to the year, but even with Baltimore's intimidating defense his offense should prove to be able to keep this game within a field goal. Am I expecting a shootout from these two? No, but a low scoring affair betters the chances of the Rams turning this game into a nail-biter.

Chicago Bears

3 of 5

After impressing in their season opener against the Atlanta Falcons and looked good at the start of their game against the New Orleans Saints, everything unraveled.

In what has been a consistent issue for the Bears, the offensive line failed to protect Jay Cutler and the offense came to a staggering halt after their early score.

The Green Bay Packers are also coming off an underwhelming performance, after allowing Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers to stay around in the game instead of blowing out their opponent like many thought they would.

Newton played fantastic, but you can't allow a rookie to slice up your defense if you're the defending Super Bowl champions.

In a heated NFC North rivalry I expect the Bears and Packers to keep the game close, therefore allowing Chi-Town to cover their 3.5 spread.

San Francisco 49ers

4 of 5

After an incredible performance against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday at Candlestick Park, the San Francisco 49ers find themselves insulted by the Vegas odds for Week 3.

Andy Dalton has looked competent behind center while Cedric Benson will be suiting up for the Cincinnati Bengals despite a pending three game suspension, but the Niners had Dallas on the ropes all game in Week 2 and that's a team who could blow out Cincy.

While there has been little hype surrounding San Francisco, their team is better than most believe, and they should have no problem covering their 2.5 spread or even upsetting the Bengals.

Denver Broncos

5 of 5

In another interesting spread, the Denver Broncos are 6.5 point underdogs to the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.

While Denver has had some costly injuries to start the year with Knowshon Moreno and Brandon Lloyd, both are expected to play in Week 3 and both have had more than sufficient production from their backups.

Willis McGahee and Eric Decker have played well standing in for their injured teammates, and both should see a good amount of time on the field against the Titans.

Kenny Britt has been playing the way Titans fans thought Randy Moss would when he came to town last season, but Chris Johnson has struggled out of the gate after receiving his brand new contract.

Either team could win this game, both teams have similar talent at key positions but there's no reason Denver can't be within a touchdown when all is said and done.
