NFL Predictions Week 3: Which Teams Are in for a Rude Awakening?

Joseph HealySep 23, 2011

It's tough not to get excited about teams that are off to quick starts or got emotional wins early in the season.

However, it's important to remember that it has just been two games. That's not nearly enough time to draw any real conclusions about anyone.

For the following three teams, the fun is about to stop, as they are in for a rude awakening in Week 3.

Buffalo Bills

I'm a huge believer in the Bills in the long term this season, but on this night, they will come back down to Earth.

They will still have success on the offensive side of the ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Stevie Johnson are both playing as well as just about anyone at their positions, and the Patriots defense isn't anything special.

Stopping Tom Brady and New England's offense will be where the problems are. The Bills are improved on that side of the ball, but it will take a special group to even slow down the Patriots.

Cincinnati Bengals

In the Bengals' game against the 49ers, one of the two teams' surprising starts will be ended. The 49ers have been the more solid of the two, and they will pull out this win.

This game potentially means more for the Bengals, as they know Cedric Benson will be missing some time at some point this season. His loss will mean more losses for the team. That motivation won't be enough, though.

The 49ers are one or two good performances away from having to be taken seriously as a dark-horse contender to win the NFC West. They are off to a decent start while the Rams are 0-2.

New York Giants

The Giants atoned for their Week 1 loss to the Redskins by getting a win this past Monday night against the Rams. Their running game came through for them and their defense was able to bother Sam Bradford.

The Giants still have major question marks, and those will be issues in their game this week against the Eagles. Both Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham are banged up. That's not good news when facing a secondary as good as the Eagles'.

The news that Michael Vick has been cleared to play won't make things any easier for the Giants.
