Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M: Last Minute Spread Info and Predictions
Conference realignment chatter aside, No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 8 Texas A&M are set for a good ol' fashioned shootout with massive implications on the Big 12 and BCS pictures.
Both squads sport prolific offenses led by top quality quarterback-wide receiver tandems with Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon for the Cowboys and the Ryans Tannehill and Swope for the Aggies. Make sure the stat sheets and scoreboards are flame retardant because these two teams have more than enough firepower to light up the college football landscape on Saturday.
Where: Kyle Field, College Station, Texas
When: 3:30 p.m. EDT
Watch: ABC, ESPN2 (check your local listings), ESPN3
Spread: Texas A&M -4.5 (courtesy of sportsbook.com)
This one's a tough call since there's bound to be a ton of scoring, but I'd take the spread here. Four of the last five meetings between these two have been decided by five points or less.
Over/Under: 69 (courtesy of sportsbook.com)
Go over, over, over. The Cowboys average 52.3 points per game, the Aggies 41.5. These offenses will be hard-pressed to meet or beat those numbers against quality competition, though they should still crack 75 or 80 points combined.
Key Injuries
OK State comes into this game practically unscathed by the injury bug.
A&M on the other hand, has some good news among Ryan Tannehill's top targets. Wide receiver Jeff Fuller tweaked his hamstring against Idaho last week, but should be well enough to play on Saturday. Tight end Michael Lamothe will be back in action after sitting out due to a concussion he sustained against SMU in the season opener.
BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications
Both of these teams should be in the mix for BCS bowls after this game depending on how each fares against No. 1 Oklahoma later this season. The winner of this game will have a clear leg up in the race for the Big 12 and an instant bump up into the race for the BCS National Championship.
Regardless of the outcome, expect both Oklahoma State and Texas A&M to be ranked in the polls come Sunday.
Keys to Oklahoma State Win
As fantastic a quarterback as Brandon Weeden is, he needs to smart and careful with the ball if for no other reason than to make sure Oklahoma State doesn't squander opportunities to score. Weeden has already tossed six picks in three games. Two more may just be too many for the Pokes to withstand.
Keys to Texas A&M Win
The Aggies have a strong enough passing game to keep up with the Cowboys, but the key to victory will come in the running game. Texas A&M has two terrific 'backs, in Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael, who are capable of carrying the load.
If the Aggies can jump out to a decent lead, look for them to run the ball early and often to eat up clock and keep OK State's offense off the field.
Prediction: Texas A&M 41, Oklahoma State 34
