Tom Brady: New England Patriots QB Proves That Lying Can Be the Best of Options

Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady is a no-good dirty liar, and I am perfectly fine with that. 

The star who brought you such hits as 517 yards in Week 1 followed up with the sequel in the form of 423 yards against the Chargers in Week 2. He then dropped another bomb heading into Week 3.  

You see, Tom Brady is a man of very few words. That fact is by design and has nothing to do with him having the personality of Bill Belichick's shoelaces. 

Brady has given us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his press conferences and interviews. Allow me to spoil the ending for you—he lies. 

Brady has deceived us all, leaving his true feelings on players, games and matchups for only himself. You just can't trust anyone nowadays. 

Brady told reporters this week that he plays his cards close to his vest, and for a very good reason.

I don't often say exactly how I feel. And I don't often say exactly what I think. Because you don't want to cause controversy. When there is controversy, all your teammates start getting asked about "What Brady said." Really, it becomes a distraction to the team. You're trying to get ready for an important game on the weekend, and then now, on Thursday and Friday, the only thing that people want to talk about is some comment the quarterback on your team made.

When that happens, I feel bad and a certain responsibility to my teammates that in some way I let them down. That they have to be cleaning up a mess that I made for the rest of the team. And that's never a position that I want to put my teammates in because we have too many other things to worry about.

Spoken like a true Patriots player. New England has been led by an equally tight-lipped head coach in Bill Belichick. 

This franchise never lets out more than it cares to, and never causes more of a distraction than could otherwise be avoided. 

While other teams are keen on flapping their gums and creating a nationwide buzz, the Patriots keep their mouths shut. 

The focus is always on winning, never on creating headlines or controversy. We only have ourselves to blame. The nation is used to keying in on every last single hiccup in an interview. Things are taken as gospel then blown out of proportion. 

In reality, an athlete really has only one option anymore. If they want to keep the headlines off the ridiculous, they need to step back and keep their opinions to themselves. Even a little bit more than that will cause an epic backlash that would derail any team. 

Tom Brady is a liar. He also happens to be a winner. This week we learned the two things are inextricably connected.
