NFL Picks Week 3: Which Teams Will Feast on Cupcake Opponents?

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

A win is a win, however a team gets it. Granted, in the NFL, a team would certainly prefer a major victory over a difficult opponent just for bragging rights, pride, and that all-important playoff seeding.

But sometimes, a beastly team gets fed a sweet treat—a cupcake, if you will. Here I will detail two matchups that are going to prove to be bitter losses for a duo of struggling teams.

The San Diego Chargers host the woeful Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and look to avenge their Week 2 35-21 loss to the New England Patriots in a big way.

The Chiefs are in the bottom of the statistical pack in average points scored and total yardage, and they rank 30th of 32 in passing yards. Their rushing total is one of the highest in the league, but they should experience a significant drop off now that they've lost star rusher Jamaal Charles for the season with a torn ACL.

The Chargers, on the other hand, have struggled a bit to both score points and gain rushing yards, but have one of the highest totals of overall passing yards in the NFL through two games.

Statistics for San Diego don't really even matter when discussing this contest; however, the Chiefs are doomed to another blowout loss and an 0-3 record exiting Sunday's game.

Another 0-2 team destined to fall yet again on Sunday is the Indianapolis Colts. The AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers come to town with the memories of their Week 1 blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens and Week 2 shutout win over the Seattle Seahawks equally fresh in their minds.

The Colts have just 86.5 rushing yards this season, and are averaging 13 points per game, while their passing yardage is 29th in the league. They've scored just two touchdowns to their opponents' seven, and have a dismal 521 total yards through two games.

The Steelers won't likely ease up on the slumping Colts, and the odds of them holding yet another team to zero points and one foray into their own territory for a second week in a row are certainly looking good.
