Ohio State Football: Over/Under Wins for the Season with Braxton Miller at QB

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

There are a lot of teams that would love to have a 2-1 start to the season but you're an exception when you're Ohio State. Especially when you have no passing game whatsoever and your offense struggles to score points.

The Buckeyes had a close call a couple weeks ago against Toledo but everything was good because they had won. But last week against the Miami Hurricanes was Freddy Krueger ugly.

Ohio State had 35 total passing yards and, out of two quarterbacks, they completed four passes total. They lost the game 24-6 and the fingers were pointing.

This time the axe fell on senior quarterback Joe Bauserman and freshman Braxton Miller was named the starter for next week's game against Colorado.

Bauserman played horribly in the last two games, averaging just over 100 yards and completing just 50 percent of his passes. That's not good quarterback play, especially when you're a Buckeye.

Braxton Miller had his fair share of struggling as well but it's a lot easier to accept poor quarterback play from a freshman rather than a senior.

Miller does provide something that Bauserman doesn't and that's his ability to make plays with his feet. Miller is very quick and has 62 rushing yards on 13 carries. That is something that the Buckeyes need, a spark on offense, and Miller provides that.

It's also smart to start Miller considering he is the future of this program. He has way more upside than Bauserman and Bauserman is a senior who won't be here next year.

Let's be honest, this Buckeyes team is not going anywhere this season. So the best move is to start the young quarterback and let him learn and prepare him for next season. What head coach Luke Fickell was doing before was not good for Miller as he would yank him out of the game the second he made a mistake.

So, just how much better will the Buckeyes be with Miller as the starting quarterback?

He is only one guy and he's still a freshman but I can promise you, you won't see another offensive performance like you saw last week against Miami.

Ohio State should have no problem beating Colorado this week but after that, who knows? With a tough stretch against teams like Michigan State, Nebraska, Illinois and Wisconsin, Miller could start off 1-4 as a starter.

That's okay though.

Losses would be a lot easier to accept knowing that the best quarterback the Buckeyes have to offer is on the field.
