Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: 5 QBs You Should Leave on Your Bench

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

Remember back in the day when having a stud running back and an average quarterback were enough to win you most fantasy football weeks?

That era is now long gone.

It's a passing league in the NFL, and in turn, the champions in fantasy football now feature the game's top throwers.

However, not all quarterbacks are created equal. Here are five guys you might want to keep on your bench in Week 3.

Jay Cutler, Bears

1 of 5

Here's a quick rundown on Cutler's matchup this week against the Packers:

He's thrown more interceptions against Green Bay (10) than any other team in the NFL, his passer rating when playing the Packers is his lowest against any other team with a minimum of three games played and no team has sacked Cutler nearly as close to as many times as the Bears' division rivals.

Keep Cutler on your fantasy bench this weekend.

Eli Manning, Giants

2 of 5

Manning played better in Week 2 against the Rams, but he'll be facing an Eagles team that has intercepted him 16 times in his NFL career.

Manning also has a banged up receiving corps that will go up against one of the game's best secondaries. If the Eagles can take away Hakeem Nicks with Nnamdi Asomugha, Manning's options run out in a hurry.

Philadelphia has been good at getting pressure too, as evidence by their nine sacks (second in the NFL). All that adds up to a long day for Manning.

Sam Bradford, Rams

3 of 5

Bradford put up well over 300 yards against the Giants in Week 2, but he's only found the end zone once in two games. That's not cutting for a potential starter, as touchdowns are the life blood for quarterbacks in fantasy.

And while the Ravens allowed over 300 yards to the Titans a week ago, stopping Chris Johnson was their main focus. I don't think the Ravens will be fooled into doing that two weeks in a row.

Week 3 is a good time to sit Bradford on your bench.

Kyle Orton, Broncos

4 of 5

Orton is a borderline starter in fantasy as it is, but don't expect Week 3 to be the time to start him.

He's facing an underrated Titans' defense that stifled Joe Flacco and the Ravens a week ago, and Orton hasn't looked sharp in turning it over three times to start the season. I'm sure the chants for Tim Tebow don't help either.

Regardless, make sure Orton is on your bench this week.

Other Non-Starters

5 of 5

Seahawks' Tarvaris Jackson: How long will the Seahawks continue to play this career backup?

49ers' Alex Smith: He's been average, and that doesn't cut it in fantasy football.

Vikings' Donovan McNabb: You just don't know what you're going to get from an aging McNabb.

Colts' Kerry Collins: Against the Steelers, don't even think about playing Collins.

Chiefs' Matt Cassel: He's slowly playing his way out of Kansas City.
