Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall May Soon Be the Target and NOT Tony Romo

Mike RaffoneJun 7, 2018

The target on DeAngelo Hall's forehead gets bigger and brighter as news of his Tony Romo and Felix Jones taunts continues to spread.

The Pro Bowl Washington Redskins CB told the Washington Post, "Absolutely, I want to get a chance to put a helmet on who ever's hurt." Hall's remark was specifically directed at Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and his fractured ribs.

Hall recklessly vocalized what NFL players have privately discussed, seldom outside the locker room, but never to the media.

Hall's taunting words to Romo as well as to Cowboys RB Felix Jones—whom the former No. 1 pick out of Virginia Tech threatened to "hit high" at Jones' injured shoulder—have furnished enough fodder to backfire on the Redskins cornerback.

Instead of Hall targeting Romo and Jones during their game this weekend, expect Hall, as a result of his unwise words, to be smack in the middle, as a bull's eye target of:

* a wary NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his league office who will closely scrutinize Hall's actions on the field in lieu of the NFL's mandate for player safety.

* a motivated Dallas QB Tony Romo eager to silence the garrulous Redskins CB with pinpoint passes to Dez Bryant, whom Hall will certainly cover this weekend.

* a miffed Redskins defense, which will look to muzzle Hall for his bulletin board material heading into an early season NFC East showdown with the Cowboys.

* an empathetic NFL fan base, which is always captivated by clever trash talk, but never at the expense of a player's health or safety.

Romo has corralled all the sympathy votes from around the league for his courageous comeback following his Week 1 Monday Night Football debacle to throw for 300+ yards in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers...all with the same fractured ribs that Hall wants to put his helmet on.

Yes, most football fans are hoping that the target on Hall's forehead will burn bigger and brighter this coming weekend as a result of getting roasted by Tony Romo, Felix Jones and the Cowboys.

Then, maybe DeAngelo Hall will think twice before taunting and targeting another injured player again.

Straight talk. No static.
