NFL Picks Week 3: Which Teams Will See First Loss of 2011?

John RozumJun 7, 2018

So far, through two weeks of pro football, there are seven undefeated teams remaining.

Green Bay, Detroit, New England, Buffalo, New York (Jets), Washington, and Houston are all that's left in the chase of perfection.

That said, New England and Buffalo play this week in a big AFC East matchup.

Therefore, we know (barring a tie) at least one team will no longer be undefeated after Week 3.

So how many of the remaining seven fall from grace this week, and actually lose?

Only two, because the other three (Packers, Jets, Lions) are all playing inferior opponents, while the Redskins win a close one in Dallas.

New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills

It's arguably the biggest AFC game up to this point, and the fact that it's within the division only enhances the magnitude.

Buffalo is a surprising 2-0, whereas the Patriots are expected to begin this way virtually every season.

However, the game is in Buffalo, a place where New England has had trouble in the past, even when they come out on top.

As for the Bills, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing very well, and WR Steve Johnson quickly became one of the NFL's best receivers.

New England, on the other hand, still has Tom Brady, and the team's defense significantly improved from Week 1 to Week 2.

And if the Bills' defense allowed 35 points to Jason Campbell and the Oakland Raiders, you can only imagine what Tom Brady and the Patriots can do.

Not all hope is lost for Buffalo, but Week 3 comes in the form of a reality check.

Houston Texans vs New Orleans Saints

This one has shootout written all over it, and with two stud QBs going up against an inferior defense, despite both defenses being improved, offensive-minded football fans are going to love this game.

Saints QB Drew Brees is arguably playing better right now than he's ever been (which is really saying something), and he's doing it without a solid rushing attack behind him.

In addition, his receiving core is arguably the best in the game, but as individuals they don't stand out like Houston's Andre Johnson.

And speaking of the Texans, QB Matt Schaub is also playing very well, even without a ground game, but he just happens to have Andre Johnson out wide.

Only difference here, however, is that New Orleans has played a much, much more difficult schedule to this point (Green Bay and Chicago), whereas Houston has played Indy and Miami (both 0-2).

It's the first real test for the rising Texans, as their improved pass defense has never gone up against a perennial NFL MVP.

Plus, the Saints rarely lose at home in their beloved Superdome.
