Conference Realignment: Pac-12 Was Right to Send Texas Packing
With what I imagine to be a cool smile, the Pac-12 heard what Texas wanted and said thanks, but no thanks, saving the conference from the instability that still threatens the Big 12.
The conference will not waver from their ethos that all programs are created equal. At the every least, no program will weigh more heavily on the national stage.
Texas wanted to have the giant cake they sliced for themselves if they were to make the jump from the Big 12 to the Pac-12.

It is that network that has driven a wedge into the once-solidified Big 12 conference. Schools like Oklahoma take exception with another beast being bigger than they are.
Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott and other officials have worked hard to create a conference that is as stable as they come.
Scott gave the precise temperature of the moment on Wednesday morning.

Texas is a behemoth that would very much like to stay that way. They are a program that would serve themselves and the rest of the nation better as an Independent.
The last thing the Pac-12 needed was Texas-sized problem to rock a very fine balance. Let's see how this 12-team thing works before we go talking about 16 programs.
At the very least, let's talk about 16 teams that want to be members of a stable conference. Texas just isn't ready for that sort of thing.
