Fantasy Football Week 3 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Why You Must Start Antonio Gates

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

How did the Patriots hold Antonio Gates without a catch for last week's game, even when Philip Rivers threw for 378 yards with two scores?

Gates, arguably the most dangerous tight end in the game, was only targeted once and was a complete non-factor in the Chargers offense from start to finish.

Shocking.

But Gates owners need not worry.

No. 85 should be a fantasy stud once again this week when the Chiefs come to town.

There was speculation that Gates' foot injury flared up against New England, but I think Bill Belichick's game plan was to totally eliminate the star tight end and let the other San Diego receivers beat him.

Against KC, Gates should have a huge day.

In Week 1, unknown tight end Scott Chandler had a huge day for the Bills with five catches for 84 yards that went along with two touchdowns.

Last week, Lions tight end Tony Scheffler found the end zone as well.

Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry is lost for the year, which leaves a huge void in the middle of Kansas City's secondary. This game could get out of hand early, and expect Gates to be a part of any blowout victory.

There's no way Philip Rivers don't look to integrate him back into the offense right away after his game last week. He has regained his rapport with wide receiver Vincent Jackson, but that just makes the Chargers offense that much more explosive.

Gates may not be back to 100 percent, but there is no one in the Chiefs' defensive backfield that can stay with him all afternoon.

You most likely weren't going to sit Gates, but you may have started to be concerned after the Patriots game.

No worries.

Gates is a must-start this week.
