Fantasy Football Week 3 Projections: Is Bills RB CJ Spiller Due for Big Game?

Buffalo Bills wide receiver David Nelson isn't the only player to benefit your fantasy team now that Roscoe Parrish is lost for the season.

Running back C.J. Spiller also appears set for an increased role within the Bills' offense, adding wide receiver to his job description. Spiller also returns punts on top of his rushing duties.

His numbers so far this season are low—nine carries for 79 yards and one touchdown, and two receptions for 11 yards in two games—much of which has to do with the league-leading performance of starting back Fred Jackson.

While the evolution of Spiller's game will likely happen more quickly (rather than gradually), don't look for him to make a considerable impact in the team's Week 3 game against the New England Patriots.

He will get targeted by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick more than the two from the previous two games, to be sure,  but I am not sure that the short-to-mid-length passing game will be a major success against the Patriots this week.

I recommend that fantasy GMs who already own Spiller, or ones who are interested in a versatile running back who can bolster your numbers (especially in a PPR league), keep him on the bench for this week.

You're better off evaluating what this expanded role really means for the back while his team takes on division-mates and NFL powerhouse New England on Sunday. If you like what you see, then you can make the decision to start or sit him in subsequent weeks.

This is certainly an exciting development for the Bills' No. 2 back, and he's set to be an even greater contributor to your fantasy team as the season goes on.

I just suggest to not react to hastily to this news—if you don't have Spiller, you want him. He's available on waivers, so by all means, pick him up today. But, hold off on using him until next week.
