NFL Picks Week 3: Which Games Will Feature the Closest Scores?

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

You think Week 3's games in the NFL will be any less exciting than they were last week?

Think again.

We've got some matchups on the schedule that should yield some very competitive and hard-fought games that have the possibility of some late-game heroics.

Miami at Cleveland

This game intrigues me because of the offensive differences.

Although Daniel Thomas ran for 107 yards last week, Miami will look to move the ball through the air and get Brandon Marshall involved early.

Chad Henne has taken a lot of heat from fans in the first two games, but he hasn't been that bad passing the football.

It'll be interesting to see how Miami's aerial attack produces against a Browns secondary that has allowed only 165 yards per game thus far.

The Browns will do the opposite on offense.

They'll pound the rock with Peyton Hillis and let Colt McCoy simply manage the game while limiting mistakes.

Experts believed the Dolphins were bound to have another Top 10 defense, but they haven't proven that so far.

Miami is on the road, which actually is good news for Dolphins fans, and this should be a fight to the finish.

San Francisco at Cincinnati

For as much as the Dolphins and Browns game-plan differently, the Bengals and 49ers are that similar.

Both have quarterbacks who are looking to prove themselves, and both have bruising running backs that set the tone in the first quarter.

The defenses are better than advertised and this game could be settled in the final seconds.

New York Jets at Oakland

The Raiders are coming off a crushing defeat at the hands of the Bills, but have displayed quite the balance on offense with the versatile Darren McFadden and the underrated Jason Campbell.

Their defense was torched in the second half last week, but expect them to rebound at home.

Mark Sanchez and Co. are sitting pretty at 2-0, but face a tough matchup in the Black Hole this week.

The defense should be able to limit Campbell through the air better than Buffalo did, but McFadden is a handful.

Your classic slug-fest.

Houston at New Orleans

You want offense?

Check this game out.

The Saints get the edge because they're playing inside the rambunctious Superdome, but Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson will come to play.

Houston boasts the league's top defense and this game could be decided by a late defensive play.
