Lesnar vs. Overeem: Overeem Will Assert His Dominance on Lesnar and UFC

Donald WoodSep 21, 2011

While many fans of the UFC may not know much about Alistair Overeem and his dominance over the Strikeforce heavyweight division, they will all know when he knocks out fan favorite Brock Lesnar at UFC 141.

Many experts have called for a Brock Lesnar victory in a very short amount of time, but to say that makes no sense whatsoever.

Lesnar has been out for a long time, and to shake the rust off against one of the toughest fighters in the world is not the smartest move the UFC could have thought up for Overeem’s entrance into the company.

UFC president Dana White talked about the matchup between these two men, and its implications on the heavyweight division:

"

Yeah, it is [a No. 1 contender fight]. That's a crazy fight. Imagine when those two square off at the weigh-ins. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited for that fight too. I'm excited to see, and I know the fans are too, I'm excited to see what Alistair Overeem has. People can yap and say whatever they want; when these guys come over to the UFC, it's a whole 'nother ball game. It's going to be a real good gauge to find out where Alistair really sits in the heavyweight division. I'd say it's pretty safe to say [that the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos will fight the winner of Lesnar vs. Overeem].

"

This fight will be as exciting as any of the other Lesnar fights we have seen, but like the Cain Velasquez fight, Lesnar will end up on the losing end.

I’m not saying that Lesnar is done with MMA, but I think fighters are starting to figure out what Lesnar’s game plan is right away and use it against him.

With Overeem being a smart fighter, he will take what he is given and turn it against his opponent, and to think the same won’t happen when he faces Lesnar is foolish.

Like Dana White, I can’t wait to see these two stand toe-to-toe at weigh-ins, and I can’t wait to see this fight more than I have wanted to watch a fight in a long time.

Overeem will win by knockout in the first round.
