Marcedes Lewis Injury: Updates on Jaguars Star's Week 3 Status and Fantasy Value

Eric BallJun 2, 2018

Marcedes Lewis is essential to the success of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It’s simple: the Jags are 1-0 with him and 0-1 without him.

Lewis missed last week’s loss to the New York Jets with a calf injury and his team got absolutely stomped.

Things appear to be good to go on the Marcedes Lewis front as he has returned to practice. According to Tania Ganguli of The Florida Times-Union, he was able to practice in full today.

Be sure to check close to gameday, but as long as Lewis doesn't have a setback between now and Sunday, he will be good to go for this weekend.

Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8:45 a.m. EST

The official Twitter of the Jacksonville Jaguars confirmed that Lewis has returned to practice in a limited role on Wednesday.

The fact that he is still limited is a cause for concern, and means you should continue monitoring this situation for the remainder of the week.

Lewis didn't appear to have much chemistry with Luke McCown, but he should have a decent week with Blaine Gabbert taking over.

It is quite common for rookie quarterbacks to utilize their running backs and tight ends as safety nets, so dont be surprised if that happens this week

Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5:00 P.M. (EST)

It sounds like things are looking good for Lewis after he participated in Wednesday’s practice according to Dion Caputi of @NFLDraftUpdate:

If Lewis is already able to practice this early in the week, I think it’s safe to say he’ll be back in action this weekend. Then again, @2011NFLFantasy reminds us all that it wasn’t exactly a very physical practice on Wednesday:

Fantasy Value:

Without Luke McCown’s safety valve at tight end, he ended up throwing four INTs in one of the worst performances by a starting QB in recent memory last Sunday.

If the Jaguars want to right the ship this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, they need a healthy Lewis. Rookie Blaine Gabbert has been tabbed the starter and will need the reliable Lewis to bail him out when the pressure comes.

All signs point to Lewis returning and putting him back in your lineup would be a safe play. I wouldn’t start any receivers on the Jags as Gabbert gets thrown into the fire, but expect him to get bailed out by his tight end on more than one occasion.
