10 Biggest Fantasy Football Fails of 2011

James TateSep 20, 2011

Week 3 is a little bit early to be declaring someone a fantasy bust, but there are already a handful of players that look like they are not going to play up to their draft position.

Whether it be because of injury or just lack of performance, here is a list of guys who have failed so far in 2011 fantasy football.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles

1 of 10

Jamaal Charles was a top 5 pick in pretty much every fantasy draft that took place before the season. Now those people are scouring the waiver wires for guys like Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster because Charles is out for the year with a torn ACL.

There is no doubt Charles would have been a star had he not got down with an injury.

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson

2 of 10

CJ was also a top 5 pick in pretty much every fantasy draft.

He has just 77 yards in two games and is averaging 2.3 yards per carry. It is hard to say if his production will get better as time goes on, because his offensive line looks pretty weak.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore

3 of 10

Gore wasn't drafted as high as Charles or CJ, but he was still a first-round pick in most drafts. He only has 106 yards and one touchdown in two games.

There is some worry out there that his best years might be behind him.

Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning

4 of 10

Peyton Manning was drafted high in most drafts because the Colts were still saying that he would be ready for the season. Now it looks like he will spend most of the season in jeans with that goofy look on his face.

St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson

5 of 10

Steven Jackson got hurt in the first game of the season but did have 2 carries for 56 yards. He did not play in Week 2 and is questionable for Week 3.

It is tough for a running back to come back from a quadriceps injury. Unfortunately, that is exactly what Jackson will have to do.

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston

6 of 10

Colston had a decent game in the NFL opener against the Packers, but he was lost for 6-8 weeks when he went down with a broken collar bone.

There is a chance he could come back and help you out at the end of the season, but there is no guarantee your team will still be alive in the playoff race at that point.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe

7 of 10

Bowe was one of the best fantasy football wide receivers in the league in 2010. That prompted a lot of people to draft him high in 2011. He has re-paid those people with 118 yards and no touchdowns in two games.

Things will only get tougher for Bowe with Jamaal Charles out of the line-up.

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams

8 of 10

Williams signed a big new contract in the offseason and was high on the preseason fantasy football rankings. He has just 43 yards on 17 carries through two games.

That is the definition of fail.

Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant

9 of 10

A lot of people were on the Grant bandwagon this offseason. How could he fail? He was going to be the feature back in a high-powered offense.

Well he has failed by rushing for just 65 yards in two games. There is also a pretty good chance that he will lose his starting position to James Starks sooner than later.

Indianapolis Colts WR Austin Collie

10 of 10

Collie became pretty worthless with the news that Peyton Manning was going to miss most, if not all, of the 2011 NFL season. He had zero catches in Week 1 and just three catches for 24 yards in Week 2.

He was not drafted high in most drafts, but he was drafted. Now that looks like a wasted pick.
