Fantasy Football Week 3: 3 Stars Bound to Explode After Lackluster Starts

Ryan RudnanskyJun 4, 2018

It's only been two weeks, but it's never too early to take advantage of careless fantasy owners who are too reactionary.

Several stars have disappointed thus far through Week 2, and the rookie fantasy football owner may be tempted to trade them for a discount.

Here are three stars bound to explode for your fantasy squad in Week 3.

3. DeSean Jackson, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

I'm dialing back my expectations just a bit until Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is cleared to play, but there is no way DeSean Jackson should have just 18 fantasy points through the first two weeks. He's way too explosive, far too dynamic and too important to the Eagles' passing game.

Against the rival New York Giants in Week 3, expect Jackson to go off and make Giants head coach Tom Coughlin red-faced once again.

If your league counts return touchdowns, Jackson is even more dangerous. Remember what he did against the Giants late last season. Coughlin is still fuming after that.

2. Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons

There is no way, through two games, one of the elite receivers in the league should have just 84 receiving yards and one touchdown. White is far too talented, he has quarterback Matt Ryan throwing him the ball and the Falcons have so many weapons on offense it's hard for defenses to focus on a single player.

He plays at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, and they do have a good cornerback in Aqib Talib, but White is too good to be this dormant for too much longer.

Start him, and start him with confidence.

1. Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans

Chris Johnson, coming off a lucrative contract and selected in the top three of most fantasy football leagues, has been one of the biggest disappointments so far, and you could make the case he's been the most disappointing.

He has 77 rushing yards and 37 receiving yards through two games and he's averaging a mere 2.3 yards per carry.

But, Johnson, like Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson, is the type of running back that when he's on his game, nobody can stop him. Stack the box and give him a mediocre offensive line and he'll still burn through defenses.

I think Johnson's time has come. A player like this doesn't lie dormant for more than two games.

It just so happens Johnson plays the Denver Broncos in Week 3, a team known for its lackluster run defense that gave up 150 rushing yards to Darren McFadden in Week 1.
