Week 3 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: 3 Surprise Players You Need to Start

Richard LangfordSep 20, 2011

This fantasy season, like any, is full of surprises. The challenge is to decipher which surprises are liable to sustain their output and which are ready to come crashing back to earth. The following three are all ready to keep rolling next week.

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick and the Bills are one of the season's surprises. Fitz is completing 63.4 percent of his passes. He also has seven touchdowns to just one interception.

He has plenty of weapons to throw to, and the Bills use them all. They like to spread out defenses with four wide receiver sets. They can also keep defenses honest with a solid run game led by Fred Jackson.

The Bills have their work cut out for them against the Patriots. However, the Patriots pass defense is not why this will be a tough match-up. The Patriots are 31st in passing yards allowed

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton has shocked me this season. He is far ahead of where I thought he'd be at any point this season. He is completing 66 percent of his passes, and he has an impressive three touchdowns to zero interceptions.

Dalton has plenty of weapons to spread the ball to. Wide receivers A.J. Green and Jerome Simpson are a force on the outside, and tight end Jermaine Gresham is a valuable weapon down the seam.

Dalton will be facing an anemic 49ers pass defense. They are ranked 29th in the league in passing yards allowed, and that is despite the fact that they faced the horrible passing offense of the Seahawks in Week 1.

Oakland Raiders WR Denarius Moore

With the Oakland Raiders top three receivers all out of last Sunday's game against the Bills rookie Denarius Moore got the start. And he produced in a big way. Moore had five catches for 146 yards and 1 touchdown.

He also added a carry for 25 yards.

Moore's playing time could get cut into if the Raiders receivers return to health, but it is unlikely that all three, if any of them, will make it back in time for the Week 3 contest against the Jets.

And even if they do, Moore's performance has earned him a chance to get plenty of playing time and targets.

Raiders coach Hue Jackson admitted as much. Here is Jackson, as quoted by Steve Corkran, when asked if Moore had earned more playing time:

"

"Oh, boy, you better believe he has. There’s no doubt. You can’t deny that one. What the guy’s doing, as I said before, he’s done it in training camp, he’s done it in practice, he’s done it in preseason games and he’s done it in regular-season games. He is as advertised. He made some plays. It’s going to be hard to keep that young man off the field, and he hasn’t been. He’s been one of the active guys, and we’ll continue to fire that."
