Vince Young Impersonator: Saga of VY's Lookalike Is No Laughing Matter

Jun 7, 2018

It's not unusual for sports fans to want to be their favorite athletes, if only for a day.

It is unusual, however, for sports fans to actually make an effort to be their favorite athletes.

By now, all of you have probably heard that somebody out there has been impersonating Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Vince Young. The mere mention of the idea is admittedly quite funny, as there just aren't that many people who can impersonate an NFL quarterback who stands 6'5" and weighs upwards of 230 pounds.

But then one reads the details, which are not so funny.

According to a report from Philly Sports Daily, Young's impersonator has gone around asking for money for the Vince Young Foundation, the quarterback's non-profit charity. Not so surprisingly, he's tried to get this money primarily from young women.

That would be creepy enough, but there's a report out from WUSA9.com that claims VY's impersonator, a man named Stephan Pittman, happens to be a registered sex offender.

Of course, Pittman, or at least a man claiming to be Pittman, denied that he has ever impersonated Young. He also refused to meet in person or be recorded in any way, for what that's worth.

It gets weirder. It just so happens Pittman is acquainted with former boxing champion Riddick Bowe, who claims Pittman arranged for him to be a celebrity guest at a party. However, Bowe claims that Pittman did not impersonate Young at the party.

Somebody else did.

"Stephan fixed it so I would be at the party and there was another gentleman that was Vince Young," said Bowe.

So despite the fact Bowe says it wasn't Pittman, it's at least true that somebody out there is impersonating Young.

If you ask me, none of this is funny. It would be one thing if Young's impersonator was out in the open and doing it for kicks, a la Pau Gasol's impersonator. I think it's another thing entirely that VY's impersonator, whoever he is, is trying to stick to the shadows while pocketing a few bucks that he says are for charity.

Make no mistake, this isn't funny. This is criminal.

The only problem in that regard is that nobody has filed a formal complaint, and the cops say they can't open a formal investigation until they get one.

If he wants to, filing a complaint should be easy enough for Young. And he should do just that.
