Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: Ranking the Top 5 QB Plays
For anyone in fantasy football who has any of the following five QBs, be very happy, because this week could very well be a better performance than the last.
And for anyone who is playing against any of the following five QBs (such as myself), hope and pray that they don't throw for any more than 400 yards and two TDs.
So, with that being said, here are the Top 5 QB plays for the third week of fantasy football.
5. Drew Brees
1 of 5It's no secret that the Chicago Bears have a good defense. You just wouldn't have known it last week, as Saints' QB Drew Brees sliced them for a modest 270 yards and three TDs (zero picks).
Sure, it wasn't a typical Brees 400-plus yard performance, but New Orleans also focused a bit more on the rushing attack in collecting 118 yards on 29 attempts.
This week however, The Big Easy plays host to the red-hot, 2-0 Houston Texans, who have the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL.
However, this is Drew Brees were talking about, not Kerry Collins or Chad Henne (Houston's first two opposing QBs).
Houston is a formidable opponent, but Brees will get his (300-plus, two TDs) and more, because New Orleans needs this win just as much as the Texans.
4. Matt Ryan
2 of 5He didn't really torch the Philadelphia Eagles' defense last week, but Falcons QB Matt Ryan still threw four TDs to only two picks.
And although it wasn't even close to his normal numbers, it was a significant step forward after not reaching the end zone in Week 1 at Soldier Field.
This week, Ryan and the Falcons travel a short distance south to Tampa to play the young, but vulnerable Buccaneers.
The Bucs' have allowed over 250 yards per game thus far, but now that Matt Ryan is in rhythm, his numbers will increase in Week 3 (hits over 300 and three TDs), and Tampa Bay will be left discombobulated.
3. Matthew Stafford
3 of 5It's been a long while waiting for a solid man under center in The Motor City, but now healthy, QB Matthew Stafford is completely dominating opposing defenses.
Though two games, he's compiled 599 passing yards and seven TDs, but only two picks.
With receiving toys such as WR Calvin Johnson most notably, Stafford will shred the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3.
They are, in fact, a defense that has allowed 280 passing yards per game, so there's no reason why Stafford won't hit close to 350-ish and connect on three TDs.
2. Philip Rivers
4 of 5Right now, the only issue with Philip Rivers' game is that he's thrown four TDs along with four interceptions through two games.
Then again, San Diego has been known to start off seasons rather slow (as of recent), but all will change in Week 3.
They host the injured Kansas City Chiefs.
Therefore, Rivers will throw close to 400 yards and three TDs against his AFC West rival, because he's averaged over 350 per game and safety Eric Berry is gone for the year.
If Rivers doesn't go over 350, it's rational to be disappointed.
1. Tom Brady
5 of 5Until someone stops him, it's always going to be Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
He's already thrown for 940 yards in two games, tossed seven TDs and has only one interception.
Week 3, however, the Patriots travel to AFC East rival Buffalo, who's 2-0 and looking to upset the AFC juggernaut.
But much to the Bills' dismay, they allowed Oakland QB Jason Campbell to throw for 323 yards and two TDs. So, with that in mind, Tom Brady will go over 400 yards and add three more TDs to his numbers.
That said, if there's anything we've learned about Brady, it's that he comes up even bigger during important regular season games.
