Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 3: 5 Players You Must Add

Zach KruseSep 20, 2011

It's that time of the week again, fantasy football owners.

When others are basking in the glory of their previous week's win or sulking because of a crushing loss, you can be scanning the waiver wire, ready to pick up the next big thing for Week 3.

We're not guaranteeing you any championships because of these pickups, but they can help you win a few upcoming weeks.

Here are the five best players you should add on the fantasy football waiver wire for Week 3.

WR Eric Decker

1 of 5

2011 stats: Eight catches, 166 yards, two touchdowns

Owned: 6.7 percent of ESPN leagues

With Brandon Lloyd nursing an injury in Week 2, Decker took his opportunity at a starting role and ran with it. Literally. Decker caught five passes for 113 yards and two scores.

Even when Lloyd comes back from injury, Decker should see plenty of targets. He currently leads the Broncos receivers with 14 targets.

WR Denarius Moore

2 of 5

2011 stats: Five catches, 146 yards, one touchdown

Owned: 2 percent of ESPN leagues

It appears all the preseason hype surrounding Moore was accurate. While his numbers don't jump off the screen, keep in mind that Moore compiled those in just one game.

He looks like the Raiders top receiving threat moving forward and a guy that Hue Jackson would be crazy not to start.

RB Ben Tate

3 of 5

2011 stats: 47 carries, 219 yards, one touchdown

Owned: 62.5 percent of ESPN leagues

If someone hasn't jumped on the Tate train yet in your league, do not hesitate to be that someone.

Tate has gotten more than 20 carries in each of the Texans' first two games, and he's responded with 100-yard outputs.

With Arian Foster still hobbled by a hamstring—which could hamper him all season—Tate is a guy that has to be owned in all leagues.

Once he's on your squad, feel free to start him until Foster is 100 percent.

RB/WR Dexter McCluster

4 of 5

2011 stats: 12 rushes, 93 yards; nine catches, 23 yards

Owned: 8.1 percent of ESPN leagues

His stats don't overwhelm you, but McCluster should see more touches now that Jamaal Charles is done for the season.

Charles' primary backup, Thomas Jones, is owned in more than 60 percent of leagues, which means that you likely won't be touching him for this week.

However, don't be afraid to roll the dice on McCluster. The Chiefs can use him in a lot of different ways, and he counts as both a receiver and a running back.

TE Fred Davis

5 of 5

2011 stats: 11 catches, 191 yards, one touchdown

Owned: 16.9 percent of ESPN leagues

The Redskins have the best one-two punch of receiving tight ends in the NFL, and Davis is emerging as a tight end that could be a start every week.

Still, after two weeks of production, Davis is owned in less that a fifth of ESPN leagues.

If you need help at the tight end position, there is no better candidate.
