Memo to the Denver Broncos: The Mumblings of a Confused, Devoted Fan

Sayre BedingerNov 24, 2008

The Denver Broncos just suffered their worst loss of the season. Not by point margin, but by lack of effort against a mediocre team at best, and so one fan has to ask: What happened to the Mile High Magic?

Denver has lost their last three home games, and in case you didn't catch the 40-second clip on ESPN their most recent defeat came in the form of a 31-10 beatdown courtesy of the Oakland Raiders.

Granted, if you follow football at all, you will know that the Raider defense has been fairly stingy of late, and have been playing some good solid football. But the Broncos were 10-point favorites at home, and should have played like it.

Long story short, they didn't.

To this befuddled fan, it seems as though when the Broncos win a big game they grow complacent and feel as though they can coast through teams like the Chiefs and Raiders. Memo to all Bronco players: YOU CAN'T!!

The Raiders are still an NFL team, and the way you played can't be described in a PG-13 way.

For this fan, who spends tons of time and money on traveling from South Dakota to Denver, to waiting in line at Training Camp just to catch a glimpse of practice, to waiting in lines at Fan Fair for you players to write your name on my replica helmet, to paying for your jerseys, and to paying for all these Denver Broncos entities; it's time to step it up and play like you get paid.

For all the effort the fans put into it, the players should put that much more into Sunday's. The pastor at my church brings up a very good point. He says, "During the week, here at the church offices, doing my paper work and planning the sermon is what I'm paid to do. Sunday is my gift back to the church and to God."

How come NFL players don't live with that motive? Sure, they spend all week to watch film, practice, and dissect that week's team, but that is what they get paid to do. What you do on Sunday's is your gift back to the fans and to the Lord who gave you those talents.

On Sunday, the Broncos took those talents for granted, and did it ever show.
