Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 3: Who Is the Best Jordan Shipley Replacement?

Chris TrapassoJun 3, 2018

The Cincinnati Bengals lost one of their more reliable receivers in Jordan Shipley last week, so what receiver steps in to take his spot?

There are a few options, and with what we saw from Andy Dalton against the Broncos, they could be decent fantasy options if you had Shipley on your roster.

Andre Caldwell is the first name that comes to mind.

He's a slot option in Jay Gruden's offense and does have a touchdown this season.

With a 6'0'', 190-pound frame Caldwell makes sense as the Bengals' third wide receiver on obvious passing downs.

I don't think he'll explode onto the scene, but his targets should unquestionably go up.

Next in line has got to be Brandon Tate.

He caught 24 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns last season in New England but has battled injuries early in his career.

The former third-round pick is very explosive and has the build to take hits over the middle.

Opposing defenses will likely load the box to stop Cedric Benson and will send a variety of blitzes Andy Dalton's way moving forward.

That could make Tate a good screen option and a wideout who could catch quick slants when Dalton has to get rid of the ball quickly.

He's not a replacement for Shipley, but I think tight end Jermaine Gresham's fantasy stock has got to be on the rise.

He's a physical specimen and is already a very good red zone target.

The second-year pro hasn't been spectacular thus far, with only eight catches for 66 yards in his first two games, but expect to see a spike in his production with a starting wide receiver out of the picture.

None of these receivers are really worthy of starting yet, but with Shipley gone, it'll be interesting to see which player takes advantage of their great opportunity.
