NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Have Best Shot at 0-16?

John RozumJun 4, 2018

Only the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) and the 2008 Detroit Lions (0-16) have ever gone an entire season without winning a game.

Obviously the '08 Lions are worse than the '76 Bucs because the NFL only had a 14-game regular season before 1978.

That being said, there are bad teams every year, and 2011 in no exception.

Could we see another franchise go winless this season?

That remains to be seen. However, if there's any chance of it happening, here are three of the 0-2 teams who could pull off this unfortunate feat.

Kansas City Chiefs

In Week 1, the Chiefs lost their starting safety and best defensive player Eric Berry for the season, and ultimately lost 41-7 to the now 2-0 Buffalo Bills.

In Week 2, it only got worse, as running back Jamaal Charles tore his ACL, and K.C. lost 48-3 to the Detroit Lions.

So they've lost their two best players and have been outscored 89-10 in two games.

The scary part is that it will only get more difficult now with Charles and Berry out, and it's possible the NFL could see a 10-6 division champion pull a 10-loss turnaround a year later.

Talk about going from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows so quickly.

Indianapolis Colts

Without Peyton Manning, all hope is lost in Indianapolis.

Although QB Kerry Collins is a seasoned vet, he's simply too old to grasp the complexity of Indy's offense.

Therefore, if the Colts want any shot at winning a game, they need to start backup Curtis Painter because he's at least been a part of the system behind Manning for a couple of years now.

Then again, going 0-16 and getting the No. 1 overall pick would suffice, because if they draft Stanford's Andrew Luck, Luck could then learn under Manning once he returns.

Then, whenever Manning decides to hang up his cleats, Luck will hit the ground running, much like Aaron Rodgers did with the Green Bay Packers. Backing a legend for a few years has proven to have it's perks—just ask Steve Young.

Seattle Seahawks

After winning the NFC West with a 7-9 record in 2010, Seattle shocked the NFL world by winning their wild-card game over the New Orleans Saints with a dramatic comeback.

Well, 2010 feels like long ago after the Seahawks 0-2 start, and with NFC West-favorite Arizona coming in for a visit in Week 3, it doesn't get any easier.

Luckily for Seattle, they're in arguably the NFL's weakest division and have a quarterback in Tarvaris Jackson who really wants to prove himself in this league.

So at least they have some motivation under their belts, and they haven't had to deal with such significant injuries like Kansas City or Indianapolis.

All in all, however, don't be surprised if these are the three teams that pick in the top 3 come draft weekend.

Sadly, only one team will get Andrew Luck.

The Colts and Chiefs play each other in Week 5. Can we now dub that game as the Andrew Luck Bowl?
