Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 3: Why You Must Add David Nelson

Fantasy football is all about having a good draft, but the waiver wire is where championships are won and lost. 

With the multitude of injuries we've seen at the skill positions through two weeks, it's time you take a look at David Nelson of the Buffalo Bills. 

You probably didn't know about him heading into this season because he was undrafted out of Florida and plays for the Bills, but there are many reasons adding him to your roster now would be very beneficial. 

Ryan Fitzpatrick is on fire through two weeks with total command of Chan Gailey's offense. The Bills are running a true spread system in which they utilize four- and five-receiver sets frequently. Fitzpatrick threw the ball 46 times against the Raiders on Sunday.

Yes, Fred Jackson is leading the NFL in rushing, but don't expect Gailey to move away from his wide-open aerial attack. 

Although Stevie Johnson is emerging as the one marquee name in Buffalo's receiving corps, Nelson has become Fitzpatrick's favorite target; a very reliable third-down option. 

Nelson has been targeted 19 times in two games and has a 14 receptions, including a breakout 10-catch, 83-yard performance against Oakland that included the game-winning touchdown. 

Expect his number of targets to stay relatively high.

Nelson is the ideal possession receiver in Buffalo's offense.

He is 6'5'', runs crisp routes and is as sure-handed as they come.

How he went undrafted is beyond me. 

With teams focusing in on Stevie Johnson on the outside, Nelson is a real chain-mover underneath and has a knack for finding the soft spot in the zone. 

It's not every year picking up a Bills wide receiver is a smart decision, but right now, snatching David Nelson, especially in points-per-reception leagues, may be the difference in a few critical matchups down the road.

He's most likely available in your league.
