NFL Picks Week 3: 4 Teams to Bet Big Before Weekend

Alex KaySep 20, 2011

Typically, bookmakers will release their NFL lines on Tuesday and adjust them all week based on how the public and sharks are playing them.

They don’t get their heavy action until the weekend and just before the games, so you can get some very opportunistic lines in your favor if you get on them early enough.

For example, if you think that the Falcons are going to dominate the Buccaneers this week and also believe that the line is going to shift back to them giving points, today would be an ideal time to get them.

The Falcons opened at -1, but as of 10:15 AM Tuesday, they are +1.5. It could easily shift back to -1 or even more with the Falcons giving points before Sunday.

Let’s take a look at three other games besides the Atlanta vs. Tampa Bay matchup that should see movement over the week.

TENNESSEE TITANS (-7) vs. Denver Broncos

I think you take the points with the Broncos if you are confident that their injured players will be back on the field this Sunday.

Eddie Royal is definitely out, but Eric Decker has been playing admirably in his stead.

Knowshon Moreno, Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil and Brandon Lloyd all missed the Browns game and the team still won, so they could easily cover this seven-point spread with a healthy roster.

Detroit Lions (-3.5) at MINNESOTA VIKINGS

The Lions have been winning games and running up the score. They play a tough Minnesota team that is 0-2 but has made both of those games close.

The way I see it is, the Bucs already beat them and the Lions beat the Bucs, so the Vikings should fall to the Lions by at least four points.

They are playing in the Metrodome, but that place isn’t nearly as intimidating as it once was. I think the Lions come out and put a hurt on their division rival and prove they are legit this year.

CINCINNATI BENGALS (-1.5) vs. San Francisco 49ers

This is the strangest line, and one that I would go with the Niners on all day.

The Bengals aren’t a good football team and don’t deserve to be getting points EVER this season.

The Niners played Dallas very close and barely lost in OT. The Bengals have beaten a very bad Browns team and played an injury-devastated Broncos squad close.

Take the 49ers before the line goes against them.
