Fantasy Football Week 3: Calvin Johnson and 3 Injuries You Shouldn't Worry About

Alex WelchSep 20, 2011

NFL Week 2 was a rough one for fantasy owners. It seemed like everywhere you turned a new player was leaving the field with an injury.

Several big names went down on Sunday. Jamaal Charles had to be the biggest. One of the top picks in everyone's draft, Charles will be out for the season. Miles Austin had a ridiculous game against San Francisco but ended up re-aggravating his hamstring and now looks to be out for a couple weeks.

There are plenty of injuries to be on the lookout for in Week 3, but there are just as many big names that have only minor ailments. Calvin Johnson always seems to be dealing with an injury, but give him credit for continuing to play through it all.

Here are a few of those top players that you don't need to worry about starting this week.

LeSean McCoy, Hand

1 of 4

LeSean McCoy left the Eagles/Falcons game in what appeared to be serious pain. Many fantasy owners—including myself—held their breath awaiting the news from the sideline.

Luckily, McCoy was seen flexing his hand with no problem. He got right back in the game and didn't seem to a problem running for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

McCoy will likely be listed as probable the entire week, but don't pay any more attention to his status.

Steve Johnson, Groin

2 of 4

One day after catching eight passes for 96 yards and a touchdown, Steve Johnson was obviously dealing with some issues. Johnson was questionable last week with his groin not being 100 percent, but he still managed to put up great numbers in the Bills' win.

He stated that he was sore after the game but simply called it "day after the game soreness." Johnson still expects to play through his pain.

Don't be surprised if Johnson doesn't practice everyday this week. He will probably have some time to rest, but there's no reason to think Stevie won't be out there on Sunday.

Calvin Johsnon, Ankle

3 of 4

Here he is, Megatron. Calvin Johnson owners know that he always seems to have something nagging at him. They also know that he typically plays through it all.

Despite being questioned constantly for his health, Johnson has only missed four games in his four years in the NFL.

He had ankle issues that kept him out of some practices during Week 2, but the star receiver played Sunday and managed to haul in two more touchdowns. He looks fine, so don't show any hesitation to start him this week.

Santonio Holmes, Quad/Knee

4 of 4

Santonio Holmes was questionable heading into Sunday's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite his status he played through everything, catching three balls for 42 yards and a score.

Holmes had suffered a mild strain in his quad, but he doesn't look like he will have any issues this week. The report after Sunday stated Holmes did not re-aggravate either his knee or quad.

Put him in your lineup for this weekend.
