NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Will Get Better As Season Continues?

John RozumJun 7, 2018

We've seen it happen hundreds and hundreds of times, where solid teams begin the season slowly but then pick it up as the games continue.

So far in 2011 it's been obvious as to who stands out on top, as well as the bottom.

However, plenty of teams have either a 1-1 or 0-2 record but are definitely better than advertised.

And with that in mind, here are two teams who will surely get better as 2011 progresses.

Carolina Panthers

Through two games the Panthers are 0-2 but have lost each game by only one TD.

To enhance their current situation, Carolina has played two teams in Arizona and Green Bay who are expected to contend (at the very worst) for their respective NFC division titles.

Rookie QB Cam Newton has played very well through two games, compiling over 400 passing yards in each game.

This week the Panthers play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team they are clearly better than, which should lead to their first victory, among at least five or six more.

Overall their schedule lightens up fairly well, as NFC South rivals Tampa and Atlanta are very beatable. Add in the Browns and Bengals from the AFC North, and there could very well be two more wins as well.

St. Louis Rams

After two games in the 2011 season, the St. Louis Rams are 0-2 but have played two very formidable NFC East opponents in New York and Philadelphia.

Last season the Rams had a chance to win the NFC West title over the Seattle Seahawks in the regular season's final week but failed to do so.

Thus far in 2011, however, St. Louis has shown signs of greatness, just not as a collective unit.

They started out solid against Philadelphia but fell apart shortly thereafter, which carried over into the Giants game.

Week 3 doesn't get any easier, with the Baltimore Ravens coming by for a visit, and the schedule doesn't really lighten up until they get within the NFC West in early November.

That whole division still has a lot to prove, as do the Rams, so it'll be interesting to see how they perform against less-established opponents, but at the same time are more important games.
