Eli Manning: New York Giants QB Is Light Years Behind Tom Brady

Jeff GrantSep 19, 2011

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning came out and said during the preseason that he considers himself in the same class as New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

He had a chance to retract the comments he made on "The Michael Kay Show" back in August, but continued to live in his fantasy world in a ESPN television interview just two days later.

So here I sit watching him take on the St. Louis Rams on Monday Night Football, a day after watching Tom Brady comfortably throw for over 400 yards for a second consecutive week, and Manning has completed just 3-of-12 passes for 27 yards with a touchdown and interception as of this writing.

Coming into the year with 154 touchdown passes to 114 picks, the former Ole Miss signal-caller must have been confident that his propensity for throwing interceptions would go away.

For comparison's sake, Brady has thrown 268 scores and 104 interceptions, but has attempted more than 1,400 passes in his career heading into tonight.

In terms of passer rating, the debate isn't even close, as Manning's career-high of 93.1 in 2009-10 doesn't even compare to the three-time Super Bowl winner's 117.2 mark two seasons earlier.

Drew Brees and Philip Rivers have a more rightful claim in being named amongst the league's elite at the quarterback position, tallying ratings over the century mark in two and three years, respectively.

Maybe it's his brother that he was alluding to.

You know, the other Manning.
