Arian Foster Injury: Houston Texans Won't Miss Hampered RB

Brandon GalvinJun 3, 2018

To say Arian Foster rushed back from his hamstring injury would be an understatement.

Foster is clearly determined to prove he isn’t a one-year wonder as he fights for a contract next off-season. Unfortunately for Foster, his impatience will prove to be his downfall.

Until he realizes he needs to rest to heal his lingering hamstring injury, he will continue to miss playing and practice time, as HoustonTexans.com’s Nick Scurfield fills us in via Twitter.

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak does think Foster took a step forward, according to Scurfield, but it seems he still realizes his superstar RB could take two steps backward at any moment.

This is why Ben Tate is expected to receive the majority of carries moving forward, according to the Texans.

Tate has been phenomenal for Houston through the first two games of the season.

He already has 219 yards and a score on 47 carries. He is a fantastic downhill runner with great power, which is exactly what the Texans need to dominate the AFC South.

Houston can afford to keep Foster on the sidelines until he is fully healthy as long as Tate continues at this pace. Tate may be the player the Texans envisioned suiting up for more than a year.

He isn’t used as the all-purpose threat Foster was, but with Derrick Ward and Steve Slaton, the Texans won’t need him to be.

As long as Kubiak gives Tate at least 20 carries per contest, the Texans will steamroll their opponents. The rushing attack is the key to the Texans’ success. We’ve seen in the past that their Super Bowl-caliber aerial attack will not get the job done.

Look at the Packers—the rushing game is key to success to win big games. When James Starks came in during the post-season, the Packers rolled to a Super Bowl victory.

As long as Tate is healthy and bulldozing opponents, Kubiak can leave Foster on the sidelines to heal. Whether or not Foster likes that plan shouldn’t matter at this point.

The goal is to win the AFC South and a Super Bowl. If they do that, Foster will receive his contract.

He needs to understand his health is a major concern for the organization. They need him healthy for the stretch run of the season. Considering Tate has been a monster, averaging almost 110 yards per contest, Foster can afford to rest his hamstring instead of pushing himself and letting it linger for the entire season.
