Kansas City Chiefs: Jamaal Charles Injury Equals Bad Luck for the Chiefs

Joseph GoodeJun 7, 2018

Jamaal Charles injured his knee by tearing his ACL while running out of bounce. Charles was a player destined for stardom, and whom the Chiefs expected to use heavily this season.

In the season opener, the Chiefs also lost their best player in safety Eric Berry for the season, which has sparked a string of bad luck for this team. As the players continue to fall, and as quarterback Matt Cassel not being able to grasp or control the offense, this team will not be able to make the playoffs again this year.

This season, the Chiefs will lose many games and actually be in the running for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

I know many people are fantasy football fans and rightfully so, and Charles was one of the top picks in everyone's draft. With Charles being out for the season, many of you are screaming, crying and scrambling to pick up another back in waivers.

The Kansas City Chiefs are probably doing the exact same thing. The Chiefs do have solid running backs in Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster, but they do not bring that star power that Charles did.

Charles was arguably the Chiefs' best offensive player. His running ability allows quarterback Matt Cassel to succeed in this league with play calls for play action and screens. Cassel already looked horrible in his first game and had no command of the offense in the season opener, and now with Charles gone, look for him to get worse.

In week two against the Lions, Cassel threw three interceptions, and looked like a backup quarterback who had no confidence.

Against the Lions, the Chiefs gave up 48 points and the big reason why was the loss of their defensive leader and best player Eric Berry. His command, leadership and presence was deeply missed on defense. Berry's ability is similar to Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed, and without that kind of impact, this Chiefs team will be in the whole in every game this season.

The Chief were last year's Cinderella team making the playoffs, but this year doesn't look for this team to accomplish much. The glass slipper is now lost and gone. It needs to be found because all this team has is bad luck.

If you are a Chiefs fan, try to collect as many rabbit's feet and four leaf clovers as you can to turn the bad luck around. They look like a team that is set to win three or four games, but looking on the bright side, the Chiefs might be able to have a replacement for the average Matt Cassel next season.
