Dunta Robinson: Roger Goodell Should Drop the Hammer on Dirty Falcons CB

Dunta Robinson made like a missile and blew up the Eagles' Jeremy Maclin on Monday. It was clearly an illegal hit, and it earned him a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty. It is undoubtedly going to result in a fine, and should even cost him a suspension.

The hit was shockingly similar to one he levied on the Eagles' DeSean Jackson last year.

That hit resulted in a $50,000 fine, that was later reduced to $25,000. Both players suffered concussions as a result of that hit.

It also means that Dunta Robinson is now a repeat offender. It is time for Dunta Robinson to face a suspension.

A player never wants to be fined, but at the same time, this obviously isn't a sufficient deterrent. Otherwise we wouldn't have repeat offenders. 

Taking a fine after laying on a big illegal hit is something that is likely celebrated in many locker rooms.

In that regard, Falcons coach Mike Smith didn't even admit anything was wrong with Robinson's hit, and went as far as to say, quoted from ESPN, "that's the way we teach it."

That hit was clearly against the rules. Robinson went helmet first with the intention of knocking Maclin's head off.

The NFL has been clear that is no longer an acceptable style of tackling. They have also made it clear that they are going to do what they can to eliminate them.

Ray Anderson, NFL executive vice president of football operations, told The Associated Press prior to this season:

"Let me make it very clear, particularly in regard to repeat offenders, that egregious acts will be subject to suspension. We will not feel the need to hesitate in this regard."

Let's see: repeat offender? Check. Egregious act? Check. I believe Mr. Robinson is two-for-two on that list.

The NFL has yet to suspend a player for a hit, but if they want these words to do anything other than stand there as a hollow PR ploy, then they need to fine and suspend Robinson.
