NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Are Playing for the Andrew Luck Lottery?

John RozumSep 19, 2011

When it comes time for the 2012 NFL Draft, it's going to be no surprise when Stanford Cardinal QB Andrew Luck goes No. 1 overall.

And with that being a foregone conclusion, all that remains is which team drafts him.

Well, two weeks into the 2011 NFL season, we may already have that answer; however, let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

Therefore, here are two teams that will be fighting for Luck this spring.

Seattle Seahawks

This season is QB Tarvaris Jackson's last hope for any shot at continuing to be a starter in the NFL.

He was average at best while in Minnesota, much thanks to RB Adrian Peterson, but thus far in The Great Northwest it hasn't been much better.

That being said, head coach Pete Carroll is giving him a chance, but with Seattle being 0-2 right now, things are not looking for the immediate future.

Even if Jackson has a decent year, the Seahawks could still get the No. 1 pick, meaning Andrew Luck would be moving north and Jackson will either be a backup or shipped out.

So for Jackson's sake, he must play well in order to get some looks elsewhere so that way he may begin anew in 2012.

Either way, if Seattle has the opportunity, Andrew Luck is coming in and taking over. Not to mention it would be a big chemistry boost right off the bat with one of his former college teammates in WR Doug Baldwin getting some playing time.

Luck is Seattle's best shot at returning atop the NFC West, because Arizona and St. Louis are better than advertised.

Indianapolis Colts

With legendary QB Peyton Manning out for the immediate future and the fact that he will be 36 years old next spring, it's for uncertain as to when he will return as well as how well he can still play.

Here's where Andrew Luck fits in.

Let's say hypothetically that Peyton Manning sits out all of 2011 to completely be reassured for 2012.

When he comes back we know he won't be back to his old self, because after being out for so long and going through all those surgeries, it's virtually impossible for the human body and mind to revert back to how great one was five or seven years prior.

However, Manning will still be a solid QB because, well, he's Peyton Manning.

To that end, his receiving corps is still very young and has a ton of potential.

As we've seen thus far in 2011, they aren't very productive with a new man under center in their complicated system. Therefore, drafting Andrew Luck and having him learn from arguably the best QB of our generation for about two years will keep the Colts' offense reloaded. They won't have to go through that rebuilding process of two or three years just to get back to being slightly above average.

Luck will keep them rolling after Manning leaves and all hope will be restored in Indianapolis.
