A Note From a (far away) Penn State Football Fan: Thank You Seniors!

"Seniors, seniors, seniors are the best...."

Dazed and Confused

Despite some decisions to be conservative that may or may not have cost Penn State football games over the last years (Ahem! ahem! Michigan in 2007! Ahem!), the senior class that Joe Paterno recruited has been, to use a Bostonian expression, "sick nasty."

The recruiting class of 2008 was the reason why Happy Valley was happier in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008—and will be feeling a lot warmer what with the Lions going to the Rose Bowl.

Derrick Williams was right about wanting to put Penn State on the map. And boy, did he do well at doing that. His first and last seasons have to go down as two of the most brilliant in Penn State history—it was as if "D-Will" was Superman.

Here's Penn State's 'thumbs up' to THAT senior class. We'd like to wish them well in the NFL Draft in April. I eagerly anticipate seeing Williams, Butler and Norwood in the first three rounds.

"But there are also the Seniors that it's worth you yelling something out to: the Seniors who screamed for Penn State everytime they came on the field. The Seniors who stayed in Paternoville, lined up 14 hours before kick-off for a good place, lost their voices, and formed a very cool 'S' in the student section week in, week out.

"Particular love goes to the 'VT' one in the Blue and White game of 2007, and the pink and black one on Homecoming in 2008. But every senior who supported Penn State deserves a medal—perhaps more the guys that had the 2001-2004 years, but some of the crap the 2005-2008 lot had to endure was pretty darned awful, too."
