Felix Jones Injury: Updates on Cowboys Star's Week 3 Status

Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones left the team's Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers with a separated shoulder. The potential loss will only further diminish the impact the rushing attack had on the Dallas offense in the first two weeks.

Good news, Cowboys fans. After a whole week of speculation about whether or not Jones' injured shoulder would keep him out of Monday night's game, the word from NFL.com's Michael Fabiano is that this is not the case.

Needless to say, this is good for the Cowboys. With Romo also banged up, Jones can do the Cowboys a big favor by getting some tough yards on the ground.

If you have Jones on your fantasy team, I still think he's a risky start. But at the very least, now you know he's going to play.

Despite the fact all signs point towards Jones playing through his shoulder injury against the Washington Redskins on Monday night, there's still a shred of doubt regarding his status.

Well, the latest from Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com might just put the worriers at ease.

I'm going to go ahead and presume that "down" is the same as saying "out." In other words, it's still looking like Jones is a go.

However, fantasy owners should still tread carefully. If it's between Jones, Tim Hightower or even Roy Helu, benching Jones is the best idea.

The Dallas Cowboys won’t have Miles Austin on Monday against the Washington Redskins, so the fact that starting running back Felix Jones will be playing through a shoulder injury is great news for Cowboys fans.

If you have Felix Jones in your fantasy league and its down to him and Tim Hightower from the Washington Redskins, you have to go with Jones. He will be a bigger part of the pass game then Hightower, and he will get plenty of touches with a hurting Tony Romo.

Even if he does play on Monday, it will be tough to start him on your fantasy team against a stout Redskins defense.

Still, fantasy owners shouldn't panic just yet considering the Cowboys are on Monday night. Still, if you're willing to roll with Felix this week, you should pick up DeMarco Murray or Tashard Choice as insurance plug-in plays in case Jones is inactive Monday.

Good news for fantasy owners who need to make decisions before Monday Night Football. Rookie RB DeMarco Murray expects teammate Jones to play, according to Dallas Morning News' Staff.

"I’m expecting Felix to play. He’s a tough guy, and he’s a leader for us. He tried to bounce back in the 49ers game, played hard and gave us all that he could, so like I said, I’m expecting him to play," Murray said.

Washington has a solid defense, but Jones should see some success if he can gut out the shoulder injury.

ESPN has posted its fantasy football projections for Week 3 and don't have a lot of confidence in Jones' ability to perform, even if he does suit up against the Redskins.

Jones has a separated shoulder, and while it is to his credit that he's thinking about suiting up for Week 3's divisional matchup against Washington, perhaps discretion is the better part of valor here. Likely this will be a game-time call.

The fantasy crew projects him to score five points. Since the game is on Monday night, you are better off going with a healthier back on Sunday unless you have Tashard Choice or DeMarco Murray.

The updates have been slow about Jones as the Cowboys have taken a secretive stance on all his and Tony Romo's injuries. We should learn more as practice heats up later in the week.

All the news continues to point in a positive direction when it comes to Felix Jones starting on Monday night against the 2-0 Washington Redskins. ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins is the latest to update his status.

However, the one thing that continues to be worrisome is that there isn't much confidence in what Jones will be able to do if he does play. If you have him in fantasy, make sure to have a backup plan ready.

The fourth-year back was averaging just 2.7 yards per carry through two weeks. That said, he's still the biggest playmaker in the Cowboys' backfield and the offense needs his presence on the field.
