NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Are in Freefall?

John RozumSep 19, 2011

At this point in the 2011 NFL season, there are few teams that stand out with 17 franchises being 1-1.

That being said, some of the teams that won in Week 1, but lost in Week 2 are confused with themselves.

Mainly because after winning in Week 1, you expect that momentum to carry over, however, it doesn't always work out that way now does it?

So which teams are in free fall?

Let's begin with a team that may come as a surprise.

Baltimore Ravens

After the dominating win over AFC North rival Pittsburgh in Week 1, the Baltimore Ravens were riding fast and flying high.

It was a foregone conclusion that they were dismantle to 0-1 Tennessee Titans in Week 2, but then reality happened and the Ravens got upset 26-13, hence they went from the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows.

And next week doesn't get any easier, as Baltimore travels to St. Louis and plays a tough Rams team that has a lot of potential.

Although they were humbled by the Titans in Week 2, don't think the Rams are a guaranteed victory because after losing to a desperate Tennessee team, Baltimore still has a lot of proving to do of their own.

Jacksonville Jaguars

It was a big win over AFC South rival Tennessee in Week 1, and heading into the Meadowlands to face the Jets in Week 2, the Jacksonville Jaguars had an upset in mind after watching New York start off slow against Dallas.

Needless to say, the Jags' got absolutely demolished 32-3 and QB Luke McCown threw four interceptions.

This week Jacksonville travels north to play the 0-2, but very hungry, Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton.

The Panthers have played very well despite losing two straight, but Jacksonville is really vulnerable at this point, and a loss here should put rookie QB Blaine Gabbert in the driver's seat.

San Francisco 49ers

In Week 1 San Fran was in a slugfest with NFC West rival Seattle, but then Ted Ginn happened and the 49ers won 33-17 in a game that was closer than the indicated score.

Well, the momentum only lasted so long in Week 2 and the Dallas Cowboys came back from being down 14-0 with less than two minutes to go in the first half.

By game's end, the 49ers gave up 13 unanswered points in 10 minutes (final seven of regulation, first three in OT) to lose 27-24 after being up 24-14 halfway through the final quarter.

Week 3 won't be easy either, because San Fran travels across the country to Cincinnati and plays a young, but talented Cincinnati team who has appeared to have found an identity, unlike the 49ers.
