Brandon Lloyd Injury: Broncos Using Tim Tebow as Backup WR Shows No Trust in QB

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

According to Lindsay Jones at the Denver Post, the Broncos knew that they might be heading into a crucial game against the Cincinnati Bengals with just three healthy WRs on the roster.

While most teams try to carry five wide outs on their active roster, the Broncos were prepared to risk going with three if Brandon Lloyd could not go.

Well, Lloyd did not play. He tested his injury on the field in the pregame warm-ups and decided at the last minute that he would not be able to perform at an acceptable level.

It looks like Lloyd should be fine as coach John Fox said:

"

“We were just trying to let it heal. This morning, he woke up and felt better. There’s a big difference between just gliding around and going up there and playing on game day, and he wasn’t ready for that.”

"

The most shocking revelation of the Lloyd injury is who they had as their emergency fourth WR in his place.

Tim Tebow, the first-round pick last drafted to play QB, was penciled in as the teams backup WR in case an injury happened.

This shows a complete lack of faith in his ability to be the quarterback of this team. John Fox does not care about his health and is willing to risk injury to his young signal caller by potentially putting him out on the field at WR.

Tebow has never played WR at the collegiate or pro level but actually got a snap after Eddie Royal was injured.

He was not targeted and just blocked, but this is not a good sign for a kid drafted to be the face of the franchise.

Tebow reportedly asked for snaps with the scout team at wide receiver and is proving he will do anything to get time on the gridiron.

While this shows amazing dedication and unselfishness, Tebow is still the QB with the most potential on the roster.

Having him out there risking injury at an unfamiliar position is wrong and it is squandering his immense talent.

Let’s hope that the Broncos actually sign a WR this week and consider using Tebow at his natural position.
