NFL Picks Week 3: Baltimore Ravens and the 3 Biggest Locks of the Week

Eric BallSep 19, 2011

Week 3 of the NFL schedule features some terrific matchups.

There are a ton of divisional games between teams with real chances of winning their respective division and inter-conference games that serve as a great measuring stick.

Yet there are three games that jump out to me as no-brainer survivor picks:

TOP NEWS

Colts Jaguars Football
Rams Seahawks Football
Mississippi Football

Baltimore Ravens over St. Louis Rams.

The Ravens are in shock after getting upset by the Tennessee Titans.

Don't expect that to effect their performance next week.

It was a classic let-down game after the monumental victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. QB Joe Flacco forced too many throws and ended up throwing two INTs. Expect the speed of the Ravens receiving core to really force the issue and end up making more than a few huge plays against a weak Rams secondary.

RB Ray Rice and the Ricky Williams were almost non-existent in the running game, amassing a putrid 45 yards on the ground. Expect Rice to get back on track against a slower Rams defensive front that will get mauled by a bigger Ravens O-line.

Combine a rejuvenated offense with a pissed off veteran defense that is facing a young QB on a short week that has never faced the exotic blitz schemes of the Ravens, and I'm thinking Baltimore will be winning by double digit points.

San Diego Chargers over Kansas City Chiefs

It looks like the Chiefs are turning into the team you bet against every week and Vegas has this line at two touchdowns.

There is no way the Chiefs will be able to contain a razor-sharp QB Philip Rivers that has weapons all over the field.

On the flip side, do you think Matt Cassel can move the ball without Jamaal Charles on a top-five defensive unit?

I'm not sure I'd take the huge spread, but in a survivor league this is the main pick of the week.

Pittsburgh Steelers over Indianapolis Colts

This looked like one of the game's of the year before the season started.

Now it's not a question of who will win, but by how much.

The Steelers got back on track Sunday in their 24-0 romp of the Seahawks and looked much better in all phases of the game.

Now they get a shell-shocked Colts team that has no shot of winning this game. QB Kerry Collins should still be retired and will not be making even a dent in a solid Steelers defense. Their lack of speed last week was vastly overblown and you can bet the Colts will be struggling to reach double-digits.

With the speediest group of receivers in the league, that won't be a problem for the Steelers.

Expect this to be a two touchdown or more romp.
