WWE Hell in a Cell: 9 Matches We Could See Inside the Devil's Playground

Russell FrancisJun 7, 2018

WWE Night of Champions just finished a few hours ago, but that doesn't mean that we have to wait a month for another pay-per-view. Ā WWE Hell in a Cell is scheduled to take place in two short weeks.

In the past two years, the event has featured two (in 2010) or three (in 2009) Hell in a Cell matches. In this slide show, we will look at possible matches to take place inside The Devil's Playground.

Editor's note: This was written before the September 19 Raw.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio

1 of 9

Out of all the matches I'm going to list, this is the one I least want to happen, but fear it to be the most likely.Ā Alberto should have a rematch with John Cena, and it seems logical for him to use it soon With another PPV coming soon, it seems all too likely.

This feud, however, has only been brewing for a month and has no need for a cell to be brought in. This could have been useful had Alberto won at Night of the Champions after Riccardo pulled interference, but it seems very unnecessary here.

World Championship Match: Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton

2 of 9

This match has possibility, but like the Del Rio-Orton match, I am not certain that I would want to see it.

There was no interference in the last match, so it seems like there is no need to add the cell. All that this would accomplish (storyline wise) would be to allow Henry to inflict more pain to Orton.

But like Del Rio, Orton should get a chance to use a rematch, and this seems like the logical place to do itĀ after all.

On top of it all, I am not certain if this would be a good match to watch. Orton has experience in these types of matches, but Henry does not, which may make it a little dull.

CM Punk vs. Triple H

3 of 9

This is the last Night of Champions rematch I'll do—I swear.

These two had a great match going until the messy, convoluted finish. It seems logical that they would need to add the structure to make sure that Miz, Truth, Johnny Ace, Kevin Nash and everyone else stay out of it.

That being said, though, it still feels rushed. These two had a stipulation filled match in their first encounter, and to add a cell (the ultimate feud ender) to their rematch feels really rushed. Where would they go from here?

WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs. CM Punk

4 of 9

These two absolutely tore the house down this summer with two huge pay-per-view main events.Ā

In both matches, CM Punk won relatively cleanly, but Cena won a match on Raw after interference. This leaves things a little up in the air for who exactly is the victor of this feud.

What better way to settle it than here? Let these two have an absolute war inside that structure to determine the better man once and for all. I know I'd fork out some money for that.

No. 1 Contenders Match: Randy Orton vs. Christian

5 of 9

Sure this may leave World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry out of the cell, but that is not necessarily a bad thing if they are trying to establish him slowly.

Henry could easily battle Sheamus outside the cell, leaving these two rivals to finally end their feud with the winner going on to challenge for the Big Gold Belt at Vengeance (three short weeks after the event).

But these two fought in four straight PPV matches, with two huge Smackdown matches thrown in there as well (including one inside a cage no less). Would this be overkill?

Probably. But it would be a darned good match!

War Games Match: Team McMahon vs. Team HHH

6 of 9

This may be a bit too much fantasy booking, but this would be great, wouldn't it?

If Vince McMahon is returning to the company, why not have him lead a group of outsiders to take out The Game in The Match Beyond.

There would be a ton of intrigue in the build to this match: Where would Punk play? Would he join HHH or want to take him out? How about Miz and Truth? What about Kevin Nash?Ā

Plus it could be a nice throwback to WCW Days.

Although Survivor Series is in a month, and they may not want to have a big four-on-four match so close to that event.

Six Man Match for the WWE Championship

7 of 9

John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk vs. Triple H vs. The Miz vs. R-Truth

A rehash of theĀ ArmageddonĀ 2000 main event, which featured Kurt Angle defending the title against five men.

Looking back, the match has not aged all that well, but it sure was fun at the time.

This match would be a ton of fun, especially if you add in the element of Miz and Truth collaborating, Triple H getting placed in the title match as the COO, Punk's promos and lots more.

Championship Scramble in a Cell for the World Heavyweight Championship

8 of 9

Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton vs. Christian vs. Sheamus vs. Cody Rhodes

At Unforgiven 2008, there were three Championship Scramble Matches for the three main titles at the time. The rules were very simple: two men start in the ring, with another entering every five minutes. After 20 total minutes of wrestling, the person who scored the last pinfall was the winner. There was only one other Scramble match a few months later in a minor match for the ECW Championship.

Why not pull it out again and add the cell to it?

It could be a lot of fun, and it would give the WWE a chance to see the reaction Cody Rhodes got as an interim champion. Plus, it would allow Henry to look dominant, or could allow someone like Christian to sneak the title away at the last moment (like Jericho did at the event).

The cell could add a bit more fun to the proceedings and lead to some good moments of chaos.Ā

Championship Scramble in a Cell for the WWE Championship

9 of 9

John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk vs. The Miz vs. Evan Bourne

Like the last match, this one feels right to me.Ā

Cena, Del Rio and Punk are pretty much a must for this match, with the last two spots being a bit more open.

I put Miz and Bourne in the match to keep the heat on their tag-team feud, while giving them both a chance to shine. I would love to see The Miz get screwed out of the title at the last minute to add to his belief in the conspiracy.

Plus, I figure that Truth and Kingston can face off in the undercard to build that feud. Maybe even have the winner of that match choose the stipulation for a big rematch at Vengeance.Ā
