Sorry, Floyd Mayweather Haters: Look at the Facts, You're Wrong

Buster ParisSep 18, 2011

Sorry Floyd haters, but you’re way off and wrong on this one—and you’re biased and bile filled hatred of Floyd has finally proven that the lot of you—the hard core haters—are idiots.

We’re talking about the fight that took place on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada between Floyd “Money” Mayweather (W 42, L 0) and “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (W 29, L 3 & D 2).

Before we go on, here are the facts. Facts are the things that Mayweather Haters don’t know, use or even understand, but nonetheless here they are:

  • Ortiz flagrantly head-butted Mayweather.
  • Referee Joe Cortez stepped in between them and Ortiz threw another punch.
  • Cortez called time.
  • Victor hugged Floyd, kissed him on the cheek and apologized.
  • Cortez took Victor away and took a point away.
  • As Joe was circling the ring with Victor, Victor once again apologized to an incredulous Mayweather.
  • The Referee then went on to admonish Victor and repeated sternly to the young man: “don’t be doin’ that! Don’t be doin’ that!”
  • The two fighters were several feet away from each other and facing each other.
  • Cortez waved them towards each other and said “let’s go.
  • Cortez was looking outside the ring.
  • Victor again was apologizing.
  • The fighters touched gloves and acknowledged each other.
  • Victor glanced off towards Cortez.
  • Floyd crankily threw a left hook and followed it with a violent right hand.
  • Victor fell down, didn’t get up by the count of 10 and lost the fight.

That’s what happened.

Browsing around Bleacher Report and the web, I’ve come across a few utterly idiotic statements by the Haters that normally I’d share with you here, but I figured let’s start the conversation anew. Let’s get a fresh start now that we have the facts.

Oh, a reminder to The Floyd Haters—you can look up the word “fact” here.

In addition to the facts it’s important to know these other items/issues as we begin our discussion:

  • Victor Ortiz decided to change the rules of the fight and make it a dirty fight when he head-butted Floyd.
  • Floyd Mayweather is not the boxing police or a referee.
  • Protect yourself at all times isn’t something that’s said at the beginning of every match or drilled into every fighters head once they even set foot in a gym because it’s cute to say. Protect yourself at all times is more than just a piece of advice.
  • The sport of boxing is a violent, brutal and dangerous sport. The participants punch each other and try to hurt each other.
  • If only there was advice for a boxer to remind them to protect themselves at all times…
  • When the referee tells you to fight, that means the guy or gal across from you is going to hit you.
  • There’s an old adage or principal in boxing as well as other fistic arts that has been a staple in the practice and participation of every combat sport since the very begging of sports. It is a policy that everyone who’s ever trained in a gym or dojo knows: “Payback is a bitch.”

So, here we are at the beginning of our discussion. Please, this is an open invitation to the Mayweather Haters to try and explain why Floyd is the bad guy here, because I just don’t see it.
