Who Will Win the NFC North? And the Survey Says......

Ben SchiermanNov 24, 2008

Thus far this season, the NFC North or the alleged "Black and Blue" division has been a real who's who of mediocre teams.

The Motor City Kitties may very well go the entire season without winning one game; Matt Millen has a bottle of champagne ready just in case.  The likelihood of the Lions winning a game this year dwindles with each passing week.

They put up an impressive 17 points in the first quarter of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, but somehow lost control and ended up getting clobbered by Jeff "Big Red" Garcia.  With only five games left in the regular season, smart money says the Lions lose out.

The Bears, currently, are atop the division with a less-than-impressive 6-5 record, beating out the 6-5 Vikings in a tie breaker.

These two teams somehow put up a combined 89 points when they met in October, but I assure you that will not happen again.  The Vikings and the Bears will meet again on Sunday at the Metrodome.  Forecast: Pillow fight.

Green Bay goes on the road tonight to take on New Orleans in a battle of the .500's.  This game is up for grabs, whoever doesn't screw up will end up with a "W".  Realistically, Green Bay should win considering they have one of the league's best pass defenses, but then again they should have beaten Minnesota.

Prediction: If Green Bay can play up to their potential for the remaining five games of the season, there is no reason they shouldn't win the division.  However, if they slip up, which they have done multiple times this year, the Vikings may just slide into the post season with a less than dominating record.

I just don't see the Bears winning this division.  Matt Forte has had a fairly good season, but he has been awful quiet when facing a halfway decent defense.  In the end, Chicago just doesn't have the offensive tools to get the job done.

Conclusion: The closest to a sure thing you're going to get in this division is the fact that Detroit isn't going to beat anyone anytime soon.
