Tony Romo Injury: Does QB's Injury Give Cowboys Good Excuse to Move On?

Jon DoveJun 7, 2018

According to Jason LaCanfora, Tony Romo has another shoulder injury and is receiving medical attention. If this injury is significant, the Cowboys could look to move on from the Tony Romo era.  Romo has shown glimpses of greatness. He has put up great numbers and led the Cowboys to countless victories. However, he hasn't been able to bring a Super Bowl title to Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys are a good organization with a rich history. This history makes being the Cowboys' quarterback a blessing and a curse. Romo has been surrounded with talented players, provided great facilities, and received the backing of the organization. However, it appears that time might be running out for Romo.

The Cowboys fans and owner expect success, not to mention Super Bowl wins. While productive, Romo hasn't been able to win the big games. His lack of playoff production has been a hot topic for several years. Now he could be considered an injury concern. If this is the second significant injury in back-to-back seasons, Romo could find himself on the way out of town.

If the organization was looking for the right time to move on from Tony Romo, this could be the perfect opportunity. Romo would be coming off of back-to-back injury-plagued seasons, while still lacking a meaningful victory. He is pushing 32 years of age, starting the backside of his career.

The 2012 NFL Draft will feature several good quarterback prospects including Andrew Luck, Landry Jones, Matt Barkley and Nick Foles. Any of these players would be an acceptable option as the quarterback of the future.

Examining the rest of the Cowboys roster, you could argue they are ready for a slight rebuild. The offensive line has several areas of concern, the defensive secondary needs an infusion of talent, and the team is struggling to win football games.

This could be the perfect opportunity to bring in a young quarterback and build towards the future.  The young quarterback would be surrounded with playmakers such as Dez Bryant, Felix Jones, Jason Witten and Miles Austin.

If you remember, the Cowboys were among the teams that brought Cam Newton in for a workout.  Was that a sign of things to come?
